The Chelsea Girls | Fiona Davis
post image

So many books collected in June! In case you didn‘t know I had an issue! 🤣

Right stack: Top 3 library books, bottom 3 books I‘ve got for free

Left stack: I had a free book on ThriftBooks and then had to get enough books for free shipping (ones with stickers), the top 5 were bought from my local indie. I had to buy books for #LMPBC and of course couldn‘t get just one!

Any you‘d recommend I start with?

marleed Oh, I started following Chanel Cleeton and reading all her books on Cuba after first falling for the cover of Next Year in Havana and then the actual book. (Book 2 of her 4 books is the only one I didn‘t really like.). …I love reading the characters Fiona Davis drops in NYC buildings and really liked the Chelsea Girls. And I just purchased Disl A for Aunties for a July read! 3y
Laughterhp @marleed Oh that‘s good to know! I‘m excited to read that one then. I‘ve only read 1 book by Fiona Davis, but I remember really liking it! 3y
janeycanuck Dial A for Aunties is HILARIOUS. Definitely pick that one up soon. And I echo @marleed on Fiona David - I haven‘t read Chelsea Girls but have really liked the others I‘ve read by her. 3y

Bk6 of my #JuneBookHaul is the 1st in an historical mystery series by the author of the Railway Detective series. Set at the time of the Domesday Book, 20 yrs after William the Conqueror became King, a tribunal is sent to the village of Bedwyn after a letter from the town miller who is subsequently brutally killed, which was written off as a wolf attack but the men suspect was really murder. These lovely editions are from Waterstones.

Bk5 of my #JuneBookHaul is a graphic novel that also came in a book box, I think it was #Owlcrate this time. In the Witch kingdom of Hyalin, the strength of your magic is governed by the length of your hair. Those strong enough are conscripted into the Witch Guard but those whose hair is too long are burned as heretics. It reminds me a bit of that new series, Motherland:Fort Salem, which I was expecting to be awful but was pretty good all up.

TobeyTheScavengerMonk I dig the cover! 4y

Bk4 of my #JuneBookHaul is (finally) the March FairyLoot book. Only took 3 months to arrive🕜 It‘s a beautiful edition at least with glittery sage green edges, a poster under the dust jacket & signed. It was a tossup to keep this one or the Owlcrate version with gold edges & a slightly different cover but I ended up giving that to my daughter instead. Bone Criers are women that ferry the dead to either Heaven or the Underworld but at a cost.

marleed Very pretty! 4y

Bk3 of my #JuneBookHaul is a signed copy of the third Jack McEvoy novel. Jack is a crime reporter, used to writing about killers, until the night a one night stand of his is murdered and he becomes the suspect. Now he has to use all his investigative skills to find the real killer before he‘s put in jail himself.

Bk2 of my #JuneBookHaul is the third in the Firefly series of novels. I‘m a Firefly tragic, I can recite full pieces of dialogue from both the tv series & the movie (“I am a leaf on the wind”) and was totally gutted when it was cancelled, especially when you consider a lot of the crap being forced on us by the networks😠. So imagine my delight to find these books! Now I just need my orange beanie & a few grenades so I can get in the mood😂

Olympus Bound | Jordanna Max Brodsky

I‘ve been generally good at sticking to my #bookbuyban but I broke it a little in June. So, Bk1 of my #JuneBookHaul is the 3rd book in Brodsky‘s “Olympus Bound” series about the goddess Artemis, now living in NYC, protecting women in trouble. After gradually losing most of her powers, she‘s now dealing with rogue elements of her family who are determined to get theirs back by any means possible. I loved the first two so have high hopes

This book is part of my #junebookhaul and I'm eager to read it. Has anyone read it? If yes, what are your thoughts?
