Mrs. W. rear-ends an old lady, Mrs. Harrington, then Jess & Liz befriend her & help out around her house. Jess is particularly taken with her, especially once she discovers Mrs. H. is really a famous retired movie star, Dolores Dufay. She pays for Jess to take acting classes & helps her with a school play. I actually really enjoyed this because I love it when Jess acts like a decent person & does the right thing. So refreshing! 😆4⭐️

Shy, awkward Sandra Ferris comes to Casa Wakefield to hang out with Saint Liz. Jess is mostly annoyed by her presence but decides to give her a makeover, & soon comes to regret it. Sandra goes from wallflower to super popular overnight & even decides to run against Jess for 6th grade citizen of the year. Has Jess created a monster? So fun as always. 4⭐️

I wanted to squeeze in one more #AuldLangSpine book, and I was so excited this was on @BarbaraJean ‘s list. True story: I chose to meet DiCamillo over Judy Blume (they were signing at the same time, and I had such a book hangover from reading The Tale of Despereaux).

So lovely!
This was a good old-fashioned type of children's story. As a read aloud it would be fantastic! The pace was a bit slow and the stories felt a bit disjointed for the independent reader.
Okay, when is the next Norendy Tale going to be available?! My kids and I whip through these magical books by the incomparable Kate DiCamillo. We love them so.
I‘m not convinced the Norendy Tales are for children nor am I unconvinced. I could see them being just as soon discarded for being confusing (and sad) as I could see them being treasured despite the confusion (and perhaps because they are a little melancholy). Regardless, they are for me. This installment reminds me of Leonard Cohen‘s Anthem: “Ring the bells that still can ring /Forget your perfect offering/ There is a crack…👇🏻
Start Now! by Chelsea Clinton (2018) is an informative nonfiction book with telltale facts about the world and what humans can do to make a positive impact. This book covers topics such as access to healthy food and clean water, endangered species, preventing sickness, and stopping bullying. This book can help children to understand the world better and give them ways that they can help make the world a better place for all people.
This is a fun nonfiction book filled with facts, stories, and inspirations for how to change the world one step at a time! This would be a great book to read on earth day!
