Some of the stories are really boring, some are weird, some are fairly interesting - funnily enough, those are usually my usual genres I read. The boring stories did drag a lot though and made me not want to read, so I'm not sure I'd completely recommend it, because at times it felt so taxing I actually avoided the book.

thereadingpal That said, the goal of the book is to improve your German and make you understand by context (and using translation when needed). I'm happy to say that I could understand most of what was going on by the end of it, while the first stories were a bit more challenging as I used the vocabs way too much and I still wasn't using German as much as I should (still am not, but I'm using it much more). 15h

julesG Wish I could recommend some good stories for learners of German. What I used to recommend to my adult students of English (as a second language) was to pick a story/book they knew well in German and read the English version. Might work the other way around too. 10h

Fluent Forever (Revised Edition): How to Learn Any Language Fast and Never Forget It | Gabriel Wyner

Even though my life is in chaos now due to having to move from a building that caught fire (everyone and all our things are ok) to a new home, I always need some stimulation. Language learning has always done that for me. I heard about this author and this revised book, so in brief snatches of time, I am diving in! So far I am curious and optimistic about his approach. Any other language learners out there and have you heard of this author?

sarahbarnes Good question. I‘d say off and on for years as an adult. I know more now than I ever have, but I don‘t even think I‘d call myself proficient. My goal is to live in a Spanish-speaking country at some point for a few months. I think that would improve my skills quickly now that I know enough to get around and can follow conversations. 3w

While I continue reading The Amber Spyglass by Philip Pullman (heart wrenching) I'm gonna read the third story in this book.
They're weird and somewhat underwhelming stories, but good for vocab

I‘m catching up on my French. I keep meaning too. Haha! I took it and passed in high school, probably just barely. Mom is going to help some. She‘s good with written French and grammar. It‘s a beautiful language!
