You've got mail: “Those are

Thanks to @JenlovesJT47 for inspiring me to make some movie haikus!
I love this movie.
The quote comes from when Joe (Tom Hanks) goes to visit a sick Kathleen (Meg Ryan).

A clock ticks and tocks
A fan in the background whirs
Comfy blankets; sleep.

Not my dog 😂 Maybe later I'll dig through my photos and share of him under the covers. Sometimes when I come home he's dug under the covers.

But the Lord of Hosts
You shall honor as holy
You shall fear and dread

-A paraphrase on Isaiah 8:13
“But the Lord of Hosts you shall honor as holy. Let Him be your fear, and let Him be your dread.“ (ESV)
A wonderful verse to show us that He is not our genie or our slave to wishes but our King, Creator, and God.
As the music artists Shane and Shane put it, “May the vision of You be the death of me.“

Holes, by Louis Sachar. Apparantly Sachar wrote the script, so that's why it is so close to the book. I love the loopholes and parallel moments that link everything together. It was so well thought out.
I also can't deny I would rewatch Sense and Sensibility (1995) and Pride and Prejudice (2005) over and over and over again!

What about you?

Butterfinger Little Women. I have watched all 6 versions and my two favorites are Katherine Hepburn's Jo and Maya Hawke's Jo. 1mo

I have two, which is why I didn't tag them:
Chronicles of Narnia series, by C.S. Lewis . My dad read all seven to me. It became a nightly ritual, so they'll always have a special place in my heart.
Trumpet of the Swan, by E. B. White. Actually anything by E. B. but Louis was my favorite character. It helped that my second favorite animals at the time were swans (horses always have been first).

How come most people apparently don't like this book?
I loooooovvvvvveeeeeeedddddd this! So cute.
I'm not sure I'll watch the movies, though... Does anyone recommend them?

rwmg I do find it the heaviest going of JA's books, though still light years ahead of many other authors'. I think the problem for many people is Fanny Price. Most people want to be Lizzie Bennett or Emma Wodehouse. Nobody wants to be Fanny Price. 2mo
bellabella @rwmg I can understand that. I love her character, how sweet and gentle she is. I think her only flaw is that she allows herself to get bossed around. I think everybody should have some degree of Fanny Price inside them... just not to the extent. 2mo

I've written a book still in publishing phase and I would definitely choose the main character, Christine. As you other authors should know, sometimes your characters surprise you with a quirky twist that is unique to them that even you (the author) don't really understand. I'd like to sit down with her and just get to know her.

I have a few family members who are authors, so I won't count them among the “author meetings“. I haven't met any authors outside of my family besides Marcus Emerson.
I really need to find out when authors I love are signing books! 😂 I guess that's what I get for living in small towns.

Dilara I have met several, mainly at various SF convention signings, but I'm an introvert & was never able to have a proper conversation with any of them. 1 was memorable b/c he wasn't nice: Hervé Le Tellier. I haven't read the book he signed for me yet because it brings up unpleasant memories. On the positive side, Alberto Manguel (went to a reading but didn't talk to him) was engaging & kind; Johanna Sinisalo was v. nice to me & said interesting stuff. 3mo

monalyisha 1 & 5. I like to snuggle in, which is easier to do with a (trade) paperback. I‘m also no fan of deckled edges (looks cool but the pages are too hard to turn). And I don‘t know how I‘d ever survive my commute without audiobooks! 3mo

bellabella @TiredLibrarian That's a good thing to be! 😊 3mo
rwmg #3 and #4 I have nothing against hardbacks except they're heavy and difficult to carry so paperbacks are the way to go.

I agree deckled edges are a tool of the Devil. The first time I saw them the book was in a sale and I thought it was being sold as a defective copy.

If I had to pick one, I would pick #5... all the above. Although that wouldn't work with #4. 😭
But I would really really love to have #4. What are libraries for but for being there when you go into debt for buying too many books? 😁 I'd walk to the library every day if I could, especially if it meant entering a book like a portal.

I know I've loved many books without seeing the movies for fear of the book being ruined, but there are some movies I've seen without reading the book for fear of the movie being ruined. Little Women and Holes are two books I've read that the movie closely follows. In short, I have no idea.

Is this a hard question for anyone else? 😂😂

Read-n-Bloom Probably read the book first, then watch the movie. 3mo

For me I'm definately a medieval/fantastical.
I mean, who can turn down a crackling fire with books and fairies everywhere? If only, if only. 😍

TiredLibrarian Medieval here too! 4mo
bellabella @TiredLibrarian when are they going to make a time machine? 😂 4mo

I feel like this series never gets old, however many times I read it. Even as I get older, I don't think I could ever outgrow it.
Are there any books like that for any of you guys?

For anyone who hasn't read the greek myth of Icarus, here is a quick summary.
Icarus's father Daedalus was an amazing inventor who created the Labyrinth for a monster but angered King Minos when he taught the prince of Athens how to defeat it. Minos sent Daedalus and Icarus into the Labyrinth and they escaped when Daedalus created waxen wings they used to fly away. Icarus, despite being warned, flew too close to the sun and his wings melted.

I'm definitely a #4 and a very close #5. I can't read while with family or at work, although I wish I could do the latter. 😂
What's your favorite time to read?

If I chose In the Barn, I would rather be riding than reading. I'd rather go swimming if I was at the beach, and I think the cafe would be too distracting, so I'm going with Mountains.
Play along if you like!

TheSpineView Totally agree on the barn! ❤️📖🐎 4mo

Too many swear words, in my opinon. Sadly. I've heard good things about it.

I read this book twice before I had to return it to the library because I loved it so much.
It's in a series but it can be read as a standalone.

Anyone want the chance to get a free (and swoony) pdf book? 😎😍
Mary Mecham strikes straight to the heart in her novella, A Curse of Gold and Beauty. A golden thread in the otherwise black tapestry of today's fantasy romance genre, it has a flare of excitement, adventure, and selflessness that doesn't fail.
The book is free when you sign up for Mary Mecham's newsletter!!

My book without the dust jacket. I am a sucker for beautiful hardcovers!! Anyone else the same?

Misty's Twilight | Marguerite Henry
Mehso-so

This is a higher so-so. I own the book but out of all of Marguerite Henry's books I've read I've only read it twice (compared to several for the others I own). I guess I just felt a little jilted after reading Misty of Chincoteague, Stormy, Misty's Foal, and others.

Swoony. Arranged marriage. Clean.
All that was missing was enemies-to-lovers and this would have been a compilation of my favorite tropes! Overall an amazing book. Wouldn't recommend for younger teens.

The Midnight Blizzard | Mary Mecham

Pickpick

Jack and Noelle were so cute in The Midnight Blizzard by Mary Mecham I literally didn't stop reading until I finished the book. Mary Mecham wrote them well and so realistically I was actually in the cold kingdom of Nieva, as Noelle's invisible best friend.
If you like to read fast-paced, friends-to-lovers, no-spice romance, I highly recommend this book for you.
I received an ARC from this author but the review above is my honest opinion.

Ashes | Christopher de Vinck

I got this book at a bookstore for really cheap and loved it so much. It is set in the Holocaust and it really hit hard. Beautiful is the word I would use to describe it. The friendship between the two main characters is so inspiring.

A Voice in the Wind | Francine Rivers

This book is my favorite in the series. I've read it cover to cover too many times to count. Thanks to my mom for getting me hooked!!!! It is such a beautiful story.
