pickThe Ice Queen by Alice Hoffman 🎧 a very nice magical realism novel, it flowed nicely and had an intriguing premise. It felt slightly flat in the middle but then made me tear up in the end. Now I am on the market for some dark fairy tales .

Was able to score 21 of the 38 from a thrift shop while on home visits today. Sadly my childhood faves: rainbow and thunder/lightning aren‘t here and my set was ruined in my parents basement. These copies are in perfect condition, I don‘t think they‘ve ever been read. I can‘t wait to share them with Wes!
so-soI thought about skipping this book club selection because I was pretty indifferent on the last Alice Hoffman book I read, but I love fairy tale retellings. Unfortunately, while the fairy-tale elements kept me going through the story, I didn‘t connect with this book either. The main character really irritated me and I didn‘t understand most of the other characters‘ motivations either. I‘ll complain/CW (personal to me, and spoilery) in a comment.

The story speaks of a time when young girls are not only disallowed from having an education, they were also banned from reading books (because men don‘t like ladies who have their own minds).
