RoseBlood | A. G. Howard

The switches between Rune and Thorn as narrators would have been less jarring if she labeled the sections. Just too much going on - unique RoseBlood school situation, new friends, mysterious past and family, phantoms underground with their own mysterious pasts and connections, psychic vampires (that was a weird curveball), and romance. After reading the epilogue, I understand the real-life and literary references of why she put all of that in.

“Fairies were notoriously difficult to understand. The fact that this one was also a cat-well, that only complicated matters”

What are you reading today? I‘m absolutely loving Salt & Broom. I‘m also a fan of the fact that it‘s finally starting to look like fall in Alabama.

My worst book of October. Not because it was bad, but because it wasn‘t for me.

#trappedinaspookyhouse enjoyed this retelling of the Ariadne myth, and the tragic story of Phaedra. I had forgotten everything that happened post-Minotaur so this was a fun one for me!

3✨The three odd sisters were a similarity among all the books so far. This was their origin story as well as recapping what happened from them in the other books.

This hit the spot!

I absolutely love Jane Austen's Persuasion, so spin offs make me nervous but this was so good! I am a bit annoyed about the Taylor Swift references but I thought this was great. It is a small town romance with lots of quirky characters, but didn't feel like a Hallmark that demonizes working women - in fact Anne is the hardest worker (for obvious reasons)
I thought this was charming, and lived the goose!

3✨When I read this I had no idea how to describe it in order to review it. The writing was beautiful and almost poetic. The main story line was interesting, and while it was based loosely on fairy tales it was very unique. Now with that said the triggers in this book were ones I didn‘t know I had! The main character was very hard on herself and self destructive in a non-permanent way. Overall, a good book yet off my shelves. #FableBR

What Moves the Dead | T. Kingfisher

Pickpick

I love Kingfisher‘s writing & decided to #SeriesBinge her #SwornSoldierSeries—novellas featuring Alex Easton, a late 19th century soldier who travels to visit old friends in this reimagining of Poe‘s #TheFallOfTheHouseOfUsher. Drawing you right in with the desolate landscape & a fun cameo from Beatrix Potter‘s mycologist aunt, this strange tale keeps getting stranger as Alex investigates the cause of the strange illness plaguing the siblings.

Comfort Me With Apples | Catherynne M. Valente
post image

Valente has been on my book radar since joining Litsy, I have yet to read one of her works, torn between Comfort Me With #apples and Radiance. Anyone have a favorite Valente?

Eggs Sounds good! 6d
monalyisha I have Comfort Me with Apples checked-out from the library right now! I can‘t vouch for it — yet. I *can* tell you that while I didn‘t love Deathless, the Fairyland books are one of my favorite children‘s series. Tagging the first one. 6d
Centique Reggie bought me Comfort Me with Apples as a gift and it is fabulous! Short, so you can read it in one sitting. But I havent read anything else by her yet. 4d
Larkken I don‘t know that it‘s necessarily good, but I loved the tagged book. Good for folks that love Douglas Adams and Eurovision lol 3d

I‘m posting one book a day from my massive collection. No description, no reason for why I want to read it.
