Discussion of Chapters 4 - 6

Question 5 of 5

EadieB I thought Barbara came up with a great idea to invite all these people to her party. It took her mind off of her so called friends who didn‘t invite her on their trip and she gave some misfortunate people a great day that they will remember forever! 4y
JacqMac I think Barbra handled that really well. It explained why people think so highly of her. And what a perfectly fantastic party! 4y
ljuliel This is one of the reasons I like Binchy‘s writing. She somehow manages to take a sad situation and make it all come out ok in the end . I‘m not quite sure I understand why the coworkers didn‘t include Barbara in the holiday plans..did she come across like she wasn‘t interested , did they not really like her? I‘m not sure, but her party was a good idea and turned out great, to invite such a wide variety of people who all got along and had fun. 4y
rubyslippersreads This was a great, light segue from the darkness of the previous chapter about Becca and her mother. 4y

Question 4 of 5

EadieB Becca‘s mother sold her daughter down the river in more ways than one! Becca gave her mother a taste of her own medicine by having Kate and Gwen contact the newspapers about her mother‘s betrayal. 4y
JacqMac Becca got her crazy from her mom. Lol And I think her revenge was very fitting. 4y
ljuliel Her mom was a nasty piece of work, and apparently, the Apple Didn‘t Fall Far From the Tree. What goes around comes around. 4y
rubyslippersreads @JacqMac is right—Becca learned everything she knows from her mother. 4y

Question 3 of 5

EadieB Becca‘s plan was a very stupid plan. How could she think she would get away with murdering Franklin‘s fiancé? 4y
JacqMac Becca is crazy! 4y
ljuliel She sounded pretty cold hearted to do what she did, in both instances. Most people wouldn‘t be able to stand by and not try to convince her friend to go for help, counseling, etc...or at least try to talk them out of harming themselves She almost took advantage of him by planning this out so HE would be the one to go out of life and take an innocent person with him who wanted to live. She sounds pretty mentally off balance too. 4y

Question 2 of 5

EadieB A situation like this can be very tricky as most women who are in love with someone are not too apt to believe something derogatory about the person they are about to marry. It could ruin their friendship and she would probably marry him anyway. I think it‘s best that she find out for herself. 4y
JacqMac I don‘t know. I couldn‘t live with myself if I didn‘t tell my best friend something like that. She should have told her. Before the wedding. I think their friendship would have been strong enough to survive. 4y
ljuliel That‘s a touchy one. I think it‘s an individual decision, depending on the people involved. I wouldn‘t be able to stand by , knowing that information, but not telling her. A lot of times it backfires, the friend gets mad at you for telling them, and she stays with the guy anyhow. 4y

EadieB @ljuliel That‘s my feeling too. I had a friend years ago that dated a married man for about 10 years. I kept telling her that he was not leaving his wife and you are wasting good years dating him. She refused to listen to me and stayed in this dumb relationship and just wouldn‘t tell me anything more about him. I learned that people are going to do what they want no matter what you tell them. 4y
ljuliel Agreed, @EadieB . It‘s frustrating to see someone waste so much time on someone who isn‘t going to enrich their life, but usually make it worse . I have a friend who‘s single. She‘s been divorced for many years . Every guy she dates now is either another cheater, abusive, drunk, won‘t work, etc. She‘s so pretty but she seems to pick all the Rotten Apples. She deserves better. 4y
rubyslippersreads I think in Rivka‘s place, I would have told, but I‘m not sure Maureen would have called off the wedding at that point. 4y

Discussion of Chapters 4 - 6

Question 1 of 5

EadieB Husband and wife should agree on fertility issues. Maureen was wrong to do what she did and not discuss the situation with her husband first. 4y
JacqMac I agree with @EadieB Something that important in a relationship needs to be discussed and agreed upon. 4y
ljuliel I agree with both the above answers ,because it could cause issues between them if either partner keeps a secret that big. That being said, I‘m sort of on the fence with this one, as it‘s almost always the female‘s responsibility to give up everything else in her life for her kids , while men still have the freedom to work, hang out with friends etc. Most of the responsibility for child care is on the mother. She should have talked to him about it 4y
