Catching up on my photo challenges! I took this photo in Mexico when I was there for an archaeological dig several years ago. The only books I have read recently by #mexicanauthors are this one and Like Water for Chocolate, but I have several more on my TBR! Lovely, heart-warming, heart-breaking story of 19-Nayeli and friends who cross the border into the US to bring back her father and other men who left her small Mexican town years before to find work. Full of rich characters like Tia Irma who still makes me smile. Urrea brings them so much to life that I feel I shoud be able to meet them in person. #MexicanAuthors @RealLifeReading

I bought this after being so awestruck by this woman, her life, and art when the Detroit Institute of Arts had an exhibit of her work. She epitomizes "though she be little, she is fierce".

I was going to take a picture of The Inexplicable Logic of My Life by Benjamin Alire Sáenz, but forgot before I left this morning! I saw him speak in March and that one is still on my TBR.

One thing I enjoy about doing these photo challenges is finding new books to fit the themes. In the library today I found this series of memoirs from Francisco Jimenez about immigrating to America from Mexico, his childhood as a migrant worker and life beyond.

My two favorite #MexicanAuthors: Sandra Cisneros & Valeria Luiselli. This essay by Luiselli just came out and is about undocumented immigration to the United States—can't wait to dig into it but I've heard it's amazing. 🇲🇽 #MayBookFlowers
