Sharp Objects: A Novel | Gillian Flynn

I really wonder what Gillian Flynn was trying to prove with this book? To create some utterly unrealistic characters (the mother, the 13 years olds) doing cruel gruesome things to eachother, and an ending that to me was obvious from the start. I know it‘s an #unpopularopinion but I really felt only annoyed by this book.

Cinfhen I didn‘t like this one either 1d
squirrelbrain That‘s a bit rubbish! But at least another state ticked off the list - you must be nearly there now? 1d

Librarybelle I really have no interest to read this one. Your review helps me feel good not wanting to read it! 1d
BarbaraBB @Librarybelle You‘re wise to not read it. There are many books out there much more worth reading! 1d
BarbaraBB @Cinfhen I‘m glad to hear that. I thought everybody loved it! 1d
Cinfhen The premise was SO RIDICULOUS/ it pissed me off. I‘m pretty sure I had lengthy discussions with @Foxyfictionista who HATED THIS book too! 1d
BarbaraBB @Cinfhen I was pissed off during the whole book. It kept getting more ridiculous and predictable at the same time. 😤 😉 24h

Foxyfictionista @Cinfhen i know! I kind of got away from Litsy in the past year or so. I love the community but i just needed a break, i guess. I keep thinking I'll get back on it. Maybe this is the nudge i needed. Thank you! ❤️ 14h

Took this picture Thanksgiving morning during the snow storm. 🌨️❄️☃️ This is the one I'll be reading next. After reading #Cut by #PatriciaMcCormick, I figured I will read another book about #selfharm that's a few pages longer. Let's see how this one attacks the subject matter. What are your thoughts on it?

#FallIsBooked Day 26: #AScaryBook that is thoroughly disturbing, Flynn managed to portray the fragrances & fumes of womanity in a way that is raw, unflinching, & apologetic, like tiny cuts in one‘s face & marveling at its peculiar beauty. I find this to be more finely delivered than Gone Girl, the horror eating away at one‘s insides, in seeming glee, delivered with a graceful & sophisticated flick of the wrist. I listened to this all of yesterday while I cleaned up my whole room (part of why I haven't been on Litsy has been lack of motivation which has been a tough thing I've been dealing with for over a couple of months). I have to say, while it was interesting, it wasn't as intense as I thought it was going to be. I also felt like the reveal was rushed right at the end without letting the reader do a little bit more digging. All in all, though, solid.

#ReadingUSA2019 #Missouri @Librarybelle

Thriller about a community where young black males are disappearing and the cops don't seem to care enough to look into what's happening. The story has a few other plots going on as well, such as a homeless man being targeted by the cops, and a young girl being bullied at school.

I loved the book for its stance on racial issues present in today's society, but the writing was a bit dry and predictable.

Librarybelle Good job checking off another state! 3mo
