A Suitable Boy | Vikram Seth

#septembowie #slowburn

This is the longest novel I ever read. 1448 pages! A whole 500 or so more than Anna Karenina. I enjoyed every moment - although it took me a long time. It follows four families over a couple of years and one is trying to find their daughter a suitable boy to marry. It was 20 years ago that I read it but I remember I felt very drawn in to the domestic worlds of the families. If you #lovebigbooks try it!

Cinfhen OMG! I can't even imagine @minkyb This might interest you @OSChamberlain 😊 7y
Marchpane That's an achievement! 👏👏👏 7y
Reggie I freaking loved this book. She doesn't choose the one you think. I enjoyed that in the middle of all this, he writes about the Tamil family who speaks in rhyme. Have you read his other one? The one about a musician who starts an affair with his ex who is now married? Totally worlds apart from this one. 7y

Centique @Reggie I‘m so glad to find another fan of this book! I just picked up his other book in a second hand shop - looking forward to reading it 😊 7y
Centique @Cinfhen I was working in a bookshop when it came out and people were shocked by its length so I wanted to prove it could be done! 😊 It turned out to be great. 7y
Centique @OSChamberlain just been looking at your books on your profile - this is a walk in the park compared to Moby Dick! You‘ll love it I think! 7y
batsy I loved this one and so glad you and @Reggie liked it, as well :) I remember using this for a past challenge about big books, I think 😁 I was also floored by how different his other book is 7y
OSChamberlain @Centique I‘m sure I will!! Glad to have this beautiful community to turn me on to books I might otherwise never hear of! 🖤 7y
Centique @batsy excellent! It‘s such a nice feeling for me to find people who love the same books 💕 Can‘t wait to read An Equal Music now. @Reggie 7y
Centique @OSChamberlain me too! I love this place. 7y
OSChamberlain @batsy Yet another one for me to check out 🖤🖤🖤 7y

minkyb @Cinfhen - @MrBook may be the #MayorOfLitsy but you are its #BigBookMonitor ‼️🤣😘 7y
Cinfhen Hahaha🤣😂🤣😂😂 @minkyb 😘😘😘thanks for that #MorningLaugh 7y
Cinfhen And I knew the lovely @TrishB had already read this one!!! #DUH 7y
MrBook @minkyb 😂👏🏻🙌🏻 I believe I tagged this book in an #AuthorPotpourri post 😁👍🏻! 7y
TrishB @Cinfhen I like big books......you're all singing now aren't you 😂 7y
minkyb Indeed @TrishB. And let‘s not forget twerking as well! 7y
TrishB @minkyb had a little laugh at the thought of that in the office! 7y
LeeRHarry I loved this and was lucky enough to find it in 3 volumes secondhand so I didn't have to lug around the whole thing all the time 😊 I enjoyed An Equal Music too 😊 7y
ChasingOm 😳😳😳 7y
Centique @Ms_T have you read it? It‘s really good. 👍😊 7y
Centique @LeeRHarry yay! I think 3 volumes is a much better idea 7y
Centique @ChasingOm yes the size is really 😳😳😳😂 7y
Ms_T @Centique I haven‘t read it but definitely will in the very near future 😊 7y
Jeg Good for you. I have a really hard time with thick books. I usually avoid them. 🙃 7y
shawnmooney Chunkster indeed! I am now totally into Indian literature so I think I'll have to tackle this one some day! 7y
Centique @shawnmooney I hope you love it too. 🤞 7y
Dragon I made it to around page 1000 and gave up, I regret that now and wished I had finished 😩 7y
Centique @Dragon oh what a shame! I have done the same thing though with other books - it‘s a big chunk of time. 1000 pages still counts of course - that‘s like two books anyway! 7y
Dragon Thanks @Centique that's a good way to look at it . 😀 7y
Ms_T This is a Kindle Daily Deal today so I‘ve bought it 😃 7y
Centique @Ms_T oh wow! Hope you enjoy it. I just remember it was like going to spend a month visiting these families ☺️ 7y
