#ItTakesAllKinds

Today‘s #SomeoneRunning prompt made me think of this book which I read while taking a women‘s studies course back in the 90s. I keep meaning to reread it. My thoughts about it were probably triggered by recently finishing Once There Were Wolves.🐺🏃🏻‍♀️🐺🩶

Eggs Well done 🏃🏼‍♀️ 🐺 🏃 3w

Mehso-so

The story of the downfall of Troy in a nutshell. Although I had a vague idea of things (the war, Helen, Achilles, the Trojan horse etc) I wasn't sure of events & who had fought on which side, so reading an 'accessible to newbies' version such as this one is a good introduction. It's written in Fry's distinctive droll style but I find it impossible to say I enjoyed reading it mainly because all the characters are just so...awful. (continued)

OutsmartYourShelf Few, including & maybe especially the gods, have little redeemable about them & I would have hated to have a been a woman living in those times. 3⭐

Love this! @TheSpineView

1. a Yuki Onna (the Japanese Snow Woman) 😎 or a vampire.
2. so many! tons of bestiaries - the tagged one is one of my favourites. in fiction, there are loads as well: American Gods, Dracula, Carmilla, Thistlefoot, Folklore - a Dark Anthology, Swamplandia!, Spirits Abroad, the Odyssey, fairy tale collections, so many ghost stories, etc. etc. etc.

TheSpineView Have never heard of Japanese Snow Woman but love vampires. Thanks for playing 1mo

'Behold: Kali Tragus, the Russian thistle.'

Making slow progress through this one, yet it's a steady one with much pleasure. So far, it's fabulous.
A dark modern fantasy steeped in Yiddish folklore, a road trip through the vastness of the USA and the heritage, myths and memories of its immigrants.
