I really liked this one! There‘s an actual plot and a reason they can‘t just fix everything with one of their magical objects (and the magic belt seems to exist again, though of course it doesn‘t work the way it did originally). Plus there‘s lots of Scraps being smarter than everybody. I didn‘t like the way the animals were so mean to each other, though. #BeyondtheYellowBrickRoad

I don‘t know about anyone else, but I‘m over this summer nonsense. So I‘m manifesting Spooky Season by declaring it Summerween. And my #Bookspin for this month fell right in line with my plans (I promise I made my list before looking at the numbers).

JamieArc Me too! I‘ve begun to start living in Fall-gust. 3w
Maggie4483 @JamieArc I haven‘t heard Fall-gust yet. I love it! 3w

Mehso-so

The royal kingdom of Pingaree is invaded & decimated. It‘s up to young Prince Inga, visiting King Rinkitink, & an irascible talking goat named Bilbil to rescue the people & restore the kingdom.

A fun, solid plot w/ interesting characters. I loved Prince Inga & how determined he was to rescue his people. But I disliked how Rinkitink was entirely useless, & I feel like I would have liked this better if it was just Inga & Bilbil together.🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑

JenlovesJT47 I have got to get caught up!! Have you thought about doing a buddy read of the Dorothy Must Die series after we finish the originals? It‘s SO good! I think that the little prequel novellas are actually better than the main series. ♥️ 3w

Trot & Cap‘n Bill have fallen through a great whirlpool, & escaped into a magical land they don‘t know. Their travels will bring them new friends & old, & of course a love story & a political coup.

I love Trot getting to know as much as we do about Oz. The friendship between her & Bill is genuinely delightful. & I loved seeing a new corner of Oz. But there are recurring issues of beauty = goodness & ugly/disfigurement = evil. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑

BookmarkTavern There‘s a joke somewhere in here that Glinda is Oz‘s CIA. Which just kind frustrated me a little, that Glinda knew about the cruelty in Jinxland, and was just like, “oh well” until they get visitors where it would reflect badly on Ozma. 3w
Clare-Dragonfly Yes, it really infuriates me that Glinda knows everything that is happening everywhere, but doesn‘t help until some cute human child runs awry of the problems! 3w
BookmarkTavern @Clare-Dragonfly Yeah, if there was some quirk to the book of records where it was delayed, or it only showed things really out of the ordinary, like visitors from another world, I‘d feel better about it. As it is, we‘re regularly told Glinda checks the book often so how much does she ignore? 3w

Lots of fun new characters in this—I liked Prince Inga, King Rinkitink, and especially Bilbil the talking goat. It has an actual plot, too, which made it even more fun. However, Oz is barely relevant. The title is strange since not only does Rinkitink only spend a couple of chapters in Oz, he‘s not even the main character. Why not call it Prince Inga in Oz? #BeyondtheYellowBrickRoad

BookmarkTavern I don‘t know! Maybe Rinkitink sounded more marketable? 🤷🏼‍♀️ 3w

I've finished another three Oz books. Just one more and I'll be caught up for #beyondtheyellowbrickroad. Of these three, The Patchwork Girl of Oz was my favorite.

BookmarkTavern That‘s such a gorgeous cover! 4w

The characters are well-rounded and realistic. I've always had a soft spot for Galinda's journey, but the main focus is on our beloved Elphaba. She has a rough start but learns how to accept herself, her flaws, and her knack for being labeled a trouble-maker. This book deals with heavy content such as racism and genocide. It had me pulling out a dictionary several times, and I've read this multiple times- a sign of a truly good read.

The Latin phrase E Pluribus Unum — Out of Many, One — is our de facto national motto. It was a rallying cry of our founders as they built a single unified nation from a collection of states. It‘s a good reminder of where we need to go.
