Nothing Grows by Moonlight | Torborg Nedreaas
post image

#TuesdayTunes @TieDyeDude

The episode in Nedreaas's "Nothing Grows by Moonlight" where the unnamed narrator recalls the day she left home to escape a stultifying life for the self-deluding fantasy of a happy life with a lover who insists on the secrecy of their assignations, while not entirely matching the lyrics of "She's Leaving Home", is close enough that the one reminded me of the other. And any excuse to listen to this song is a good one ?

lil1inblue Oooh! I'm intrigued. And yes, any excuse for The Beatles is a welcome one. 1d

“The world has been built crookedly with some kind of arrangement that makes lots of people into hunted animals and a few people so swimmingly well off they can't understand why everybody else isn't happy for them and willing to be beaten to death for their purpose.”

The rain has stopped for what looks like long enough for me to walk to the shops without getting wet.
Each spring is signalled & beautified by this clematis in our front garden that (miracle!) I've managed to not kill
This 1947 Swedish novel, however, has none of the joys of spring. A woman looks back on an affair she had with her former school teacher, and given her adverse coping mechanisms at the point of narration, it's not going to end well!

That long after our deaths, men and women sitting around a fire would hear that once, long ago, before we were all just stories, we lived.
Ahead of us, in the garden, a fire flickered to life.
And the storyteller began.

Judge Dredd Year One | Al Ewing, Matthew Smith, Michael Owen Carroll

Pickpick

13/100 Judge Dredd is always a fascinating character. A total fascist in his pursuit of justice, which isn't always the same as the Law. These are three stories of Dredd's first year as a street Judge, but he's already cold, stoic, and stone-faced, dogged and unstoppable in his hunt for the guilty. I liked the first two stories, but the third one, by Al Ewing, was more about Dredd's corrupt brother Rico, so I found it less interesting. ⬇️

RamsFan1963 The narrator gave Dredd the kind of voice I expected, a cross between Clint Eastwood and Christian Bale's Batman. Very effective, but I bet it was murder on the narrator's throat. 3 ⭐⭐⭐💫 #Read2025 #SeriesLove2025 3mo

We‘re going to pull a little bit from the last book we read because I see parallels: What parallels do you see between the hippodrome mob rebellion and the January 6 insurrection we read about in The Divider? I see parallels, but I want to know what you all think. #thedivider #ashorthistoryofbyzantium #johnjuliusnorwich #peterbaker #susanglasser #donaldtrump #joebiden #justinian #theodora #byzantium #byzantineempire #insurrection #rebellion
