Psyche and Eros has been a favorite myth of mine for quite a while. I even worked on my own retelling a few years ago, but I couldn't quite get to the bottom of the emotional truths I was trying to convey. This is a solid retelling, and I like how McNamara puts it in the context of Greek history, but while it incorporates ideas from recent retellings of other myths (Achilles, Medusa), I'm not sure it adds much of a new perspective on the story.
The plot plotted along and pages kept turning, but it was the spice that kept me in it. Ultimately an enjoyable slow burn full of Gods, magic, power, secrets and plenty of lust. I‘m not sure that I would be eager to read a long series to follow, but I‘ll definitely pick up the next book. 3.5 ⭐️ rounded up.
Happy World Book Day! I picked these up second hand at my local indie bookstore recently. Hopefully they are as good as they look.

"He loses his wife so he stirs up an army to bring her back to him, costing countless lives and creating countless widows, orphans and slaves. Oenone loses her husband and she raises their son. Which of those is the more heroic act?"
"One should never decide something as serious as bangs when they have a bottle of wine in their stomachs."

I missed yesterday but this one works for both prompts. So good. So sad 😭

1. I feel like I'm on the edge of doing something cool and creative and potentially cathartic, although I don't know yet what that might be. Maybe just a butternut squash soup innovation or something related to chord progressions (like maybe learning how they work).
2. Camille and Silo!
3. Great horned owl (in a place where they don't use poison on rodents) or a barn swallow.
4. Done!

Made all the better by the fact I‘m currently in Pelion Greece I loved this book - It‘s an adaptation of a classic Greek legend of the fate of Achilles - full of passion , war , Greek gods and drama ! . A very good read !
