It‘s been years and years and YEARS since I made out so well at the Children‘s Hospital Book Market! I shelled out $46.50 for every volume of SKIP BEAT! I was missing, every Nero Wolfe mystery priced at $1, the last two in Charles Stross‘s Merchant Princes series, two harmonica books, two volumes of sheet music, a volume of modern (to 1963) African poetry, a Mexican cookbook, and Nigella‘s Christmas cookbook.
I‘m happy.
pickWhile I liked the Obama/Biden books better, this one, featuring Bernie Sanders and an intern named Crash, was pretty fun too. Shaffer went a little overboard and and got a little pedantic with the politics though. The narrator was excellent. #audiowalk. I finished up my nighttime book and then continued with The Maidens.
I'm not much of a cook, but this book sure makes me feel like one! I tried a couple of recipes, and they've both been a smash. Easy to follow and easier to eat. Found this at the library, and I plan to try a few more before it's due. (Pictured: a watermelon feta salad from the book. 🤤) Bonus mod for recipe pictured was I already had the mint, basil, and jalapeños on hand from my garden.)

Love it when #histfic story has cultural references to events related to my lived experiences. As a kid I was unaware growing up in the 1950s of Maccarthyism, racism, birth control, women's rights. #Mtcookbook selection this week. This was a dynamite marinade! Unfortunately, I had to make a mess on my stove because the grill is inside right beside my son. 🫤 A grill pan is not my preferred method.
Note, best use the chili flakes to taste. I have a very hot blend and 1 Tlb would have dissolved my daughter. 😳
