Reginald Owen is my favorite #ScroogeOnScreen. I love this 1938 version. Ann Rutherford‘s Ghost of Christmas Past is my #FaveCarolCharacter although everyone is great is this version. Did you know that Dickens wrote FIVE Christmas books? https://www.nypl.org/blog/2014/12/18/charles-dickens-christmas-stories. I‘ll be reading the other four during the #ChristmasCarolBuddyRead.

queerbookreader Oooooo I've never heard of this version before, it sounds cool!! 6y
Lola @queerbookreader It‘s soooo good. So is the 1951 version (called Scrooge) with Alastair Sim 6y
Lwiesman @Lola I like the Alastair Sim version the best as well. My dad introduced that one to me. 6y

My #FaveCarolCharacter and #FaveXmasGhost is probably the Ghost of Christmas past in the 2009 adaptation. I remember being fascinated by it when I watched the movie because it's tiny and cute😄😄and also because of its significance. I also like Scrooge even though he's a mean old man😂 The way he was frightened when Marley's ghost appeared gave me a good chuckle!!

KVanRead That‘s my favorite adaptation of that particular ghost. I think it‘s the best visual representation of Dickens description. 6y
swatreads @KVanRead That's awesome😍 I love Dickens' imagination in this classic😍 6y

Merethebookgal LOVE this version! 6y
TheKidUpstairs "I am here to tell a story" "and I am here for the food!" My favourite adaptation, too!!!! 6y
queerbookreader My fav is Mr. Magoo's A Christmas Carol. Our tape is probably going to burn out soon we've played it so many times 😂 6y

Riveted_Reader_Melissa @queerbookreader I just posted that one as a close second! Hahaha! 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @TheKidUpstairs I love the Marley and Marley hecklers too. 6y
TheKidUpstairs @Riveted_Reader_Melissa yes! I had a holiday trivia night at work last night, and one of the questions was asking the full name of Scrooge's former partner. This scene popped into my head and I had to think for a second as to which name was the actual answer! 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @TheKidUpstairs Don‘t say we never learned anything from cartoons and muppets.😂👍 6y
Johanna414 My favorite! 6y

I'm with Nephew Fred! My favourite #scroogeonscreen had always been the Muppets. I can absolutely believe that Gonzo is Dickens and Michael Caine's singing is flawless (🙄) but I'm very excited that the BBC has commissioned A Christmas Carol Goes Wrong from the side-splittingly funny Mischief Theatre! #christmascarolbuddyread @KVanRead

KVanRead Ooh yay another one to look forward to! 6y

Issue 1 done for #ChristmasCarolBuddyRead🎄It's been ages since I sat down & read this holiday classic & I forgot some of Dickens's humor. I have a few #ScroogeonScreen favorites--Reginald Owen in the 1938 version (the classic we watched the most when I was growing up), Patrick Stewart in the 1999 television version (the only attractive Scrooge)😘& Bill Murray in 1988's Scrooged (the funniest Scrooge). Do you have a favorite? #ChristmasCarolReread

arlenefinnigan I LOVE Scrooged! 6y
GlassAsDiamonds PATRICK STEWART?!? Right, I need that! 😊😊😊 6y
JazzFeathers I really need to watch these. I used to see this on tv on most Christmases, one version or another, but now it's been ages since last l've seen any film adaptations of this 6y

This movie scarred me deeply as a child, but Scrooged remains my favorite #scroogeonscreen adaptation. Bill Murray is great, but Carol Kane really steals the show in this one.

JackOBotts Yaaaassssss! Love Scrooged! 6y
danibolahood I just watched this for the first time! I feel like I've been missing out every Christmas now. 6y

saresmoore @JackOBotts @ohyeahthatgirl I lurve it. Some of my favorite dark comedy. 6y
saresmoore @danibolahood It really stands the test of time, I think! Well, at least more than other Christmas flicks... (I‘m looking at you, It‘s a Wonderful Life.) 6y
readordierachel This and Elf have become a Christmas tradition in my family. Carol Kane 💙 6y
vivastory I love this one. I haven't watched it in years, definitely due for a rewatch. 6y
saresmoore @ReadOrDieRachel My husband and I had to take an Elf break this year. Well, that‘s his choice. I‘ll probably still watch it. We both have it memorized! 6y
saresmoore @vivastory You won‘t regret it! Especially after reading A Christmas Carol, I really appreciated Scrooged—slightly twisted and unsettling in a borderline offensive way—it seems very Dickensian. 6y
KVanRead She is fabulous! 6y
KVanRead Love her in Kimmy Schmidt too 6y
saresmoore @KVanRead I love Kimmy Schmidt—it is so wonderfully ridiculous! 6y
Suet624 Love both Carol and Kimmy. 6y

I started my #ChristmasCarolReread on #SerialReader this evening and I'm really looking forward to enjoying and discussing it with everyone! I listened to it on audio last year, but I'm sure I will notice more details reading the text this year. My favorite movie version is also The Muppet Christmas Carol, and I'll probably watch it this weekend.

Ke633 LOVE the muppets version!! So much! 💙💙 6y

This is the first #ScroogeOnScreen that made an impression on me. I remember watching the George C. Scott version and being absolutely terrified by Marley's ghost as a kid.

The first installment really set the tone for how dreary and cold London was. I loved the opening line about Marley being dead. I hope we get to see him in the next installment. This is my first time actually reading this Dickens novel! #ChristmasCarolBuddyRead @KVanRead

KVanRead Love it! I was just reading that Dickens apparently experienced a series of especially cold London winters as a child and that influenced his description. 6y
Billypar This is not just my favorite adaptation, but favorite Christmas movie, and probably favorite George C. Scott role- he's phenomenal. 6y
AmandaL @KVanRead I love all the Dickens information you're adding to this read along - that's really interesting. 6y
AmandaL @Billypar That's awesome - he will always be the picture of Scrooge to me. I think of him in this role even before Patton. 👍 6y
