These two books are powerful, heartbreaking and so pertinent to our current times. Exhausting but also hopeful. A reminder that there is still so much work to do to be a truly equal society. Wonderful characters and portrayal, Justyce and Quan will stay with me, in my heart, forever. The audiobooks were amazing!

This has been on my TBR for quite a while; admittedly, recent events bumped this up the list. The last couple of months, I‘ve been amazed at my own lack of awareness and perspective on the topics of #systemicracism & #policebrutality. Stories like this one serve a very important purpose to #educate people and highlight the corruption. While this story did not have the ultimate desired outcome, I have faith that a real change will come. It has to.

My most favorite love-to-hate character! I truly despised her, even more than Voldemort in the novels, and now I have a theme and can give it a name. For me it was always her two-faced, manipulating the system, and rub it in the face of everyone while she was at it that I hated, not to mention the personification of #SystemicRacism Voldemort at least had his reasons and was up front about who he was and what he wanted.

I need a minute. This book was published 21 years ago and everything she is talking about, writing about, explaining STILL HAPPENS. Everything that you just read in this quote regarding racism and lack of understanding is still valid today.
