#56 #TheHiddenLifeofTrees #PeterWohlleben GR: 2/5 ⭐️⭐️ Honestly, there was nothing wrong with this book. I really struggle with non-fiction and I fell asleep a few times reading this on the train.. standing up. There were paragraphs I read and thought ‘interesting‘💭 but then the same point was repeated multiple times throughout book. Just not for me but I read it as I thought it would make a nice companion piece to #TheOverstory 🌳

I loved all of these books! And I am itching to read a big book. Something current (but it doesn‘t have to be a new release). Help a girl out—what big book do you recommend? As is fairly obvious based on the above, I tend to like historical fiction/family sagas. But Capital is not historical, but does have lots of characters with various stories. Suggest me a book, and why you think I might like it! Pretty please 📖📖👍🏼👍🏼

BarbaraBB Based on The Night Ocean and The Luminaries (which I both loved too), the tagged one comes to mind! 6y
Tamra Lonesome Dove - a saga with memorable characters to fall in love with. 6y
Tamra @BarbaraBB great suggestion! 6y

arubabookwoman #TheOverstory by Richard Powers-it‘s on the Booker Long List too. 6y
batsy I'm reading tagged book right now. It's about 400 pages and requires some effort at first for those of us who are not familiar with Filipino culture, but it's a sprawling book with a big heart, if that makes sense :) 6y
Lcsmcat The tagged book is sold as two volumes in print but one (very) long eBook. Over 1000 pages, but otherwise what I would consider a “fast” read. It‘s got humor as well as deep moments. 6y
DreesReads @BarbaraBB I have read The Woman in White! And I did like it. I went on a big Collins binge many years ago because I liked his books so much! 6y
DreesReads @Tamra I have not read Lonesome Dove, but it‘s on my tbr. Excellent suggestion, it feels like a hole in my reading! 6y
DreesReads @arubabookwoman I just reserved several books from the long list at my library! That wasn‘t one, I only made it halfway through the list. I will have to add myself to the queue for that one too. It sounds interesting! 6y
DreesReads @batsy that one is on my Goodreads tbr, I‘ll watch for your review! 6y
DreesReads @Lcsmcat you named one I have never heard of! And it sounds great. I‘ll be checking my library system for it. 6y
DreesReads Suggestions are still welcome! 6y

Still enjoying this book, but it‘s become very intense. I will never look at trees in the same way, and will never take them for granted.

arubabookwoman My backyard. Some sort of berry tree in bloom overshadowed by a Douglas fir. 6y
charl08 Felt like that reading - fascinating history. 6y
arubabookwoman @charl08 I started #Barkskins with Anita‘s LT group read and got stalled (not because I didn‘t like it). Reading #TheOverstory I recognized the similarity of themes, and unlike Barkskins this one really grabbed me. #Proulx and #Powers are both especially favorite authors of mine, and I hope to get back to Barkskins soonish. 6y

Yikes! What do you do when 4 library holds come in all at once?? Not to mention the 9 you already have checked out (#TheOverstory, #RussianRoulette, #WhyBuddhism Is True, #TravelsWithCharley, #Brazen, #Citizen, #PackingMy Library, #BlackEatth, and #NaturalCauses.).

Graywacke I have a trick for this - for audio books. (An imperfect one) 6y
bnp Eek! 6y
