#LittensLoveSJM #ToG book 4 We‘re back with the main story and it‘s a long one with 89 chapters, over 600 pages. I decided in order to take some of the pressure off the #buddyread, I would “assign” 10 chapters a week and we would check in once a week, on Mondays. This will take us to end of November but of course you can read at your own pace, as always. Please let me know if you want to join in - all are welcome!

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG #QueenofShadows Ch.1-10: wow what a great first few chapters - I‘m hooked! I like seeing Aelin try to cope with all the recurring characters of her past (Arobynne, Chaol, Lysandra - and memories of Sam - and of course Aedion). Coming back to Rifthold is a lot for her. I feel terrible for Dorian. Will he be able to break free of his father and the Valg? And I still dislike Chaol. A lot. ⬇️

StayCurious He‘s such a dink - and so prejudiced towards Aelin. He doesn‘t like her killing people. He doesn‘t like her magic. He‘s ashamed that he loved her. He thinks she‘s unpredictable. Dude. You need to go. Granted, some of what he knew of her lines up with these thoughts. But I‘m still on her team. ⬇️ (edited) 4d
StayCurious Then we got a glimpse of our witches. I really hope the 13 take a stand for themselves and realize that Adarlan is into some shady shit. They keep noticing a smell and that things aren‘t right. Do something before you get sucked in and mowed over! (edited) 4d

BarkingMadRead I really really am not a fan of Chaol anymore. A friend warned me when I said I was Team Chaol and she was so so right! Ugh 4d
LiseWorks I am so upset about Dorian. The witches surprised me. Are they working for the King? 3d
Read4life I was trying to hold out hope for Chaol but I just can‘t with him anymore. 🤦🏼‍♀️ 3d
StayCurious @LiseWorks yes the witches have exchanged working with the king to get the wyverns so they can take back their homeland 3d
Laughterhp Just got my book from my library yesterday! Can‘t wait to start 3d
mcctrish Finally we have witches again but I need them to stop complaining about the smell and figure it the fuck out! Chaol will come around, right now he thinks he‘s beneath royalty that kicks ass and not in a sexy way 😜 hopefully a healer means Aedion can help with his escape somehow and not just be a deadweight. Maybe Aelin can help pay off Lysandra‘s debts and they can take Arobynn out together #ihaveplansforthisstory 2d
5feet.of.fury I‘m late lol I‘m not mad at Chaol, the whole convo was really “pot, meet the kettle” blaming eachother for things. Aelin can only see things her impulsive view point, she even realized she could have warned Chaol, didn‘t realize what Lysandra was going thru (even knowing Sam was sympathetic to courtesans… she didn‘t think WHY) 14h
Butterfinger We thought it was Kaltain and what's his face, but having it confirmed is so satisfying. I don't know what to think. I liked Chaol until he said abomination. I think they are all manipulative. Except for Dorian. HELP DORIAN!!!! And Abraxos. He likes to gaze at stars. 🤩🤩 14h

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG Novella 5: the assassin and the empire: Well, we did it. We read it and got through it. We knew the ending and we were…sort of…prepared. And honestly, I‘m glad I read these novellas after getting to know Celaena a bit. A lot of people find her unlikeable. I think that yea, she can be difficult at times, but man-she could win an Olympic gold medal in trauma. This girl has been through it. ⬇️

StayCurious It will be interesting to read the next book where she is embracing herself as Aelin and ready to fight for her kingdom and her people. I liked Sam though. I wonder if I will start to feel that way about Rowan. Maybe I shouldn‘t focus so much on romance and focus more on what Celaena needs to do (😆 me laughing knowing that I will always focus on the romance) 2w
BarkingMadRead Even knowing it was going to happen, it was so devastating! Looking forward to the next adventure! 2w

StayCurious @BarkingMadRead yes it will take me time to recover 🥺 2w
5feet.of.fury I liked it as Celaena‘s origin story, but the relationship with Sam didn‘t feel fleshed out enough & arobynn‘s deception was so obvious… I‘m looking forward to getting back to wyrdkeys & wyverns & magic & Manon 2w
mcctrish @5feet.of.fury I have to say I was surprised her relationship with sam wasn‘t more considering she went to bed with Chaol quickly -ish or did I miss her first time?! Also I need more witches 2w
Roary47 @mcctrish I think Chaol was her first time. I seem to remember (and I could be wrong) that she wasn‘t going to wait because the future was so uncertain. In reference to Sam and her getting close and waiting with us knowing it was too late for a future together. 2w
LiseWorks I hate Arobynn so much after this book. I loved Sam, even though I knew the ending for him, knowing that it was partly his fault for going after these two guys. If we had read this book first, it would have been a shock not knowing about what happened to Sam. 2w
5feet.of.fury @Roary47 I think you are correct @mcctrish the physical connection, but also the rest of it, she doesn‘t open up to him about her secret, she still thinks of them being enemies just months ago when “he loved her for years”, they just seem never on the same page.. even in the context of traumatized teens I‘m like “what do you like about eachother??” 2w
mcctrish @5feet.of.fury yes! After this story their relationship feels less explained because of everything it wasn‘t and @LiseWorks Celaena and Arobynn seem more toxic 2w
Littlewolf1 Hey all, sorry I didn‘t pick this one up with you. I had planned to, but I had read it at the beginning of the year when I wanted to do this reread originally. I‘m on board with the next book though, when do we start? 2w
Butterfinger Why won't she even consider Aerobynn as the traitor? As many times as he manipulated, beaten, and betrayed her in this book. I don't get it. Is he a twisted hero (for giving her a purpose, a life) after escaping Terasen, a deranged father figure (who took her to concerts), or just a classic #StockholmSyndrome case? 2w
StayCurious @Littlewolf1 I will post about the timing shortly 2w

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG Novella 4: The assassin and the underworld: Celaena is back in Rifthold and after all the talk of Arobynne we get to meet him in the flesh. I think he‘s such a piece of work. Poor Celaena and poor Sam, growing up in that world. And now Celaena has seen that there could be something better for her and Sam. ⬇️

StayCurious By the way, the more we see Sam and get to know him, the more I‘m waiting for my heart to be torn apart when you-know-what happens. Will we grow as attached to the idea of Aelin and Rowan? One novella left: brace yourselves! 🥺 (edited) 3w
mcctrish It took a long time to get to the point of Sam and Celaena being together but Arobynne is solidly a MoFo 3w
See All 8 Comments
BarkingMadRead Yikes Arobynne is a lot. I hate that is going to end the way it‘s going to end. Ugh 3w
5feet.of.fury Her & Sam‘s backstory is all over the place. Rivals, allies, friends, “I‘ve been in love with you for years” lol. Celaena acted like a real butt most of this story (edited) 3w
LiseWorks Well, to me, it took a lot for Celaena to admit she loves Sam. She is making a lot of mistakes, which shoes her age. I agree about the heartbreak 💔 3w
StayCurious @5feet.of.fury she acts like a real butt in the other books too - but I can see her character growth 3w
Butterfinger This is the one that bored me until she got stuck in the sewage. We also learned about when her love of music began. 3w

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG The Assassin and the desert: Celaena is sent to train with the master of the Silent Assassins in the desert as punishment for defying Arobynne - after he beat the crap out of her and did god knows what to Sam. Celaena meets a girl named Ansel who has had a difficult traumatic life, just like Celaena - and she makes a friend.⬇️

StayCurious She sees a different way of existing than under the cruel tyranny of Arobynne and she starts to see a change in how she views Sam. Honestly this novella was kind of boring and I was just waiting for the moments where she mentioned Sam and seeking any info that we might find useful in the rest of the series. I didn‘t much like Ansel and was not invested in her story. 4w
mcctrish This novella didn‘t seem to have as much story to it as the previous ones, although I guess it sets up a future Celaena would rather live in and makes further connections for when she takes over the world 4w

5feet.of.fury I didn‘t find this one as engaging either, it gave the background in the Asterion horse other than that I was like “just get back to Sam!” Lol 4w
BarkingMadRead @5feet.of.fury 💯💯💯 4w
LiseWorks I felt betrayed by Ansel. I did find it a bit slow. 4w
Butterfinger I found myself liking this story. The peace would have been such a balm to Celaena. So different from Aerobynn. This group showed more compassion, more like Celaena's values. 4w

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG The Assassin and the Healer: this was a great story and another example of Celaena finding a way to help someone and do something for the greater good. She meets Yrene, a wannabe healer who is adrift and feeling lost in the wake of Adarlan‘s conquest. She teaches Yrene some valuable lessons and gives her the means to become what she is destined to be. I have a feeling we will be seeing Yrene again. ⬇️

StayCurious Also, Arobynne is a horrible master and I hope Sam wasn‘t punished too badly. I can‘t believe what Celaena dealt with in Arobynne‘s guild. (edited) 1mo
mcctrish I hope we do meet Yrene soon ❤️ and I look forward to hunting Arobynne down and killing him 1mo

5feet.of.fury Celaena is such a badass and it was nice to see her being a “girl‘s girl” in this one. I‘m sure it‘ll come back around down the line 1mo
BarkingMadRead I hope we see Yrene again ! 1mo
LiseWorks I want to see Yrene again. Two girls feeling sorry for themselves helping each other. 1mo
Butterfinger I don't understand her pride in being Aerobynne's heir or successor. He is truly awful. 1mo
Roary47 I hope we see Yrene again too. I‘m so glad Celeana helped her to gain more confidence. 1mo

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG Next is to go back to the beginning with the prequel novellas. B/c they‘re broken up by book, we‘ll read one per week and I‘ll post on Saturday: Aug 30, Sept 6, 13, 20, finishing on Sept 27. I‘ve heard reading these novellas gives information that is valuable for the rest of the series. If you‘re not able to join, let me know and I can remove you from my main SJM tag list or save you for the next book.

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG Book 3 ch.61-end/review: well, that‘s how you ramp up a book and get the readers excited for the next book. I felt like it was Boom Boom Boom - each of our characters had smth life altering happening in these final chapters. I‘d like to make special mention of Chaol finally choosing a side and then giving up his name and identity, just as Aelin acknowledges who she really is. That wasn‘t lost on us,SJM. ⬇️

StayCurious Did anyone else feel as though they were reading a different book when it came to the witch chapters? Funnily enough those were my favourite chapters and the most interesting. I can‘t wait to see what Manon gets up to in the next books. There‘s a lot to be done by the others: free Aedion, find the third wyrdkey, face Celaena‘s old master, free Dorian (who now may be inhabited by the Valg)…lots to do. ⬇️ 2mo
StayCurious But now we‘re going to take a little side quest to the prequel novellas in The Assassin‘s Blade. For those who want to join me, I‘ll post a reading schedule tomorrow. (edited) 2mo

BarkingMadRead I‘m in for the next one! I loved the Manon chapters, they were very different but in the very best way 2mo
mcctrish I will join you - I got the wrong book from the library 😱 and I agree on Manon and her witch pals feeling like a different book. The Assassin‘s Blade might give me some trouble, all forms of it have long wait times at multiple libraries (edited) 2mo
Roary47 I‘m in for the next one too! 🥰 2mo
LiseWorks Boom, Boom, Boom is exactly right for the last chapters. Yes fir the next book 2mo
Butterfinger Week of professional development, a mile long to-do list, a new baby in the family. I woke up at 3 to complete ch 55 to the end. Maas knows how to craft a cliffhanger. I was sort of wanting Abraxos to eat the grandmother. I have missed reading. 2mo
