The Dutch House | Ann Patchett
post image

I loved this story so much that my #Top6Reads for 2019 needs adjusting. Based on Litsy input I experienced the Tom Hanks narration. This sibling relationship is beautifully written, and I completely understand how a house, the good and the bad of it, is a living breathing member of a family. ...You know how judges on singing competitions describe a vocalist by their ability to sing a phone book? Well, Tom Hanks can narrate a phone book!

Scochrane26 My librarian told us this is our January book for book club. I‘ve read one Patchett that I didn‘t love, so I‘m hoping I like this better. 1mo
marleed @Scochrane26 I would love to talk to this book IRL. There‘s nothing exciting about the story itself but it‘s just so well written . I just loved it and the perspective from which it was told. Tom Hanks narration is soo good so it‘s possible I‘m positively tainted by that but I‘m pretty sure I‘d give it 5 stars with words alone. 1mo
Scochrane26 @marleed that‘s good to know. She was in my area recently, & I didn‘t go, so I‘m hoping I don‘t regret that. I might after reading this book. 1mo
marleed @Scochrane26 ohh, I‘m kinda hoping you do because it might mean you loved the book! 1mo

Milkman | Anna Burns

Set during the troubles in Ireland. A young girl from a large catholic family tells her own tale of stalking, maybe boyfriend, a real milkman and her family. She talks of the perilous nature of life in one faction in a matter of fact way. It is a difficult book to read.

marleed I was a so-so too. I‘m wondering if I read in the wrong mindset because it is a top 2019 pick for many on the #Top6Reads. 5mo

I think I‘m probably the last litten to post their #Top6Reads of 2019 so far. Took me a bit to narrow it down, according to my GoodReads challenge, I‘ve read 68 books since Jan 1st. Rating them 1-6 is -Neuromancer(fantastic), All Systems Red(Murderbot rules), Chernobyl(nuclear nightmare), Song Of Achilles(Greek love), Ruby Ridge(scary siege) & Six Of Crows(Oceans11 on ice). Highly recommend all six! 10⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

GlassAsDiamonds 🤦🏻‍♀️ Actually .... I haven‘t posted mine either!!!! 😂😂😂 Thanks for the reminder!! (Also - Six of Crows!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 and it‘s a good thing I didn‘t read this BEFORE I‘d left the bookstore ... I have Chernobyl in my hand 😂🤦🏻‍♀️😂). (edited) 5mo
Megabooks Just checked Ruby Ridge out from the library! Thanks! 5mo

Here are my #top6reads from 2019 so far, in the order I read them. This was definitely an interesting exercise for me. It looks like Becoming and Normal People made lots of littens‘ lists.

Thanks for a fun hashtag @Cinfhen and for the tag @BarbaraBB! If you haven‘t done it yet, feel free to join in.

Cinfhen Milkman was a popular pick, too!! Thanks for sharing your list ❤️ 5mo

#LilithJuly This slim little volume of interconnected stories all revolve around airplane travel. Each chapter is headed by airport destinations and the stories start and end at the previous destination. I was hooked from the very first “flight “ and delighted with each encounter. It‘s not available until September but reserve your #WindowSeat now 😜 #NetGalley #ARC
