TheAromaofBooks My grandparents grew up really close to Hickham's area of WV - Grandpa remembers playing his high school's basketball team. Watching October Sky with them was so interesting, to hear what they thought about how the movie compared the reality of their lives in a coal camp. 5y

A story of place told through multiple narrators in one family. It truly captures Appalachia and particularly Southern West Virginia and why people choose to stay when their home is being destroyed by mountaintop removal mining. Shows what keeps people so attached to the land and willing to fight and why others leave. Living here and not being from here it gets at this attachment that I have struggled in the past to understand. #wv #applit

I painted a bit, cooked some food and went right back to reading today. Oops.

This book of poems totally gutted me. The theme throughout was the oxy and drug epidemic in West Virginia. My family is from WV and everything about this hurts. Oof.

I‘m going to a rally tomorrow for local teachers in our area. They‘re on strike and every county in the state is closed tomorrow to allow a walk for teachers at the capitol.
