This has been my mood here lately. I feel like I‘ve been surrounded by lackluster people and people who love me for what I can do for them. So here‘s to reading more books this year, going on more trips this year, spending more time with Pat, spending more time with my best friend, and walking away from things that force me to be something other than myself. ❤️✨

I ***loved*** this book. I am NOT a high fantasy reader. I prefer humanistic books gone wrong, books that talk about all of the potential falls that humanity might take and where and why. But this series has opened a door to worlds that I‘ve never quite been interested in before. I‘m so excited to read all of them.

bookaholic1 Love your bookmark 6y
Readingismyescape I loved this series. 6y
Ruthiella Love that bookmark 🔖!❤️😍❤️😍❤️ 6y
BiblioTori @bookaholic1 & @Ruthiella - my best friend gave it to me about a year ago! I collect book marks but it‘s one of my favorites to use when I‘m reading a series because it‘s sturdy and reliable. Books a Million & Barnes&Noble sell it! 6y
BiblioTori @Readingismyescape I‘m loving it, too. I‘m gonna seek out and read more fantasy after this. It‘s changed all of my opinions on genre. 6y

Oh my gosh. First round of reading HP ever in my life and this is my favorite book so far. It might end up being my favorite book period?? I can‘t wait to get the next one tomorrow. Been pushing through to read 1-3 books a week here lately, between work and such. Excellent read. 10/10 chocolate frogs would recommend.

Also, RIP to my bookshelf as it is laden with these (and more!) books that I have yet to read/need to finish reading. I keep getting distracted or buying and reading different books. If I was doing a readathon right now, life would be good. I plan on reading some next week while traveling to Cleveland for a concert. Maybe I can knock a couple of these out on the way there and back! 😏

Growing up in a Christian household, I wasn‘t allowed to read Harry Potter because it was about witches and warlocks and all of those wicked types of things.
So this weekend, I finally picked up the first book- and COULDN‘T PUT IT DOWN!
I‘m onto book four now, and it‘s a phenomenal series overall and I can‘t wait to finish it and then *finally* watch the movies. 🦉✨

Bookworm-Bobbie I‘m sad that you didn‘t get to experience HP as a child, but so happy you‘re reading and loving them now. Have fun, it really is a wonderful series 😄❤️ 6y
BiblioTori @Bookworm-Bobbie I‘m honestly enjoying them so much! I work at Books a Million and we‘re doing several things right now for the 20th anniversary, and so I decided to read them just to understand what was going on. &I‘m pleasantly surprised by how much I‘m enjoying them! ☺️ 6y
CouronneDhiver I wasn‘t allowed either, but I grew up and discovered that I don‘t care for fantasy, so I‘ve still not read them. Lol 6y
See All 19 Comments
BiblioTori @CouronneDhiver See, I‘m not into fantasy that much either. I‘m into other genres much more. But I‘m still finding that I enjoy it because of how well written the stories are. 6y
julesG I can't even begin to imagine what it is like to grow up in a community/family/society with 'banned' books, and I'll probably never understand why those books are banned. The only restrictions I make on my kids' reading is telling them a book is not yet age appropriate and we'll come back to it at a later time. - - - Do you, now that you have read half of the HP books, see a reason why they had been forbidden? 6y
Reggie I‘m sooo happy you‘re reading it now. Get ready because from 4 on, stuff starts to get real. But it‘s soooo good. 6y
booksandsympathy I was barely an adult when the first book came out and didn't read them then. I'm sure if I had been younger, it would've been banned. I wasn't allowed to watch Bewitched as a kid, but we could watch I Dream of Genie. I never understood that distinction. Lol. I'm glad you're enjoying the books. I read them last year(finally) and loved them. 6y
Meeko93 ❤👏 6y
BethM I'm so glad you're enjoying them! 6y
TrishB @Reggie I stuck with them as I was reading with my son - but I think they didn‘t get great until book 4- then they‘re brilliant!! 6y
Reggie @TrishB I was waiting tables on July 17, 2007, and these women who were my regulars came in and asked me what I was gonna do the rest of the day. I told them the literary second coming of Christ was going on and I was gonna buy the last HP book. Before my shift ended they came back because they had bought it for me. They were so nice. I finished it 13 hrs later at 3 a.m. (edited) 6y
BiblioTori @julesG I was raised in a very evangelical Christian setting. I wasn‘t even allowed to read twilight for years after it came out. I can definitely say that the focus on magic/witchcraft is definitely why my mom didn‘t want me to read them. She was afraid it would cloud my convictions. However, firm in beliefs now as an adult, I think it‘s a cute story between friends and that it would have been a good read as a kid. 6y
BiblioTori @Reggie Everyone so far as told me that the Prisoner of Azkaban is where things *barely* begin to kick off. If that was barely kicking it off, I‘m so excited to continue and finish out the series. I also love big books, so I hope it takes me more than a day to read the concluding three books. And I intend to read Fantastic Beasts as well, once I get done with the original series. 6y
BiblioTori @booksandsympathy See, I was born in 1998 when I think the first one was published...? (All of you can hold your shock, I know I‘m young 😂) and so I kind of grew up with all of the kids that were experiencing it firsthand and I always just called it lame and moved on. I‘ve always been allowed to watch stuff like Star Wars and LOTR, so I don‘t know why Harry Potter was so forcefully dissuaded in my house. 6y
BiblioTori @Meeko93 ☺️👍🏼 6y
BiblioTori @BethM Me too! I borrowed the first one from work with permission from my incredibly shocked manager, and then have been buying the others on my phone to read. I missed out on this experience as a kid, and I‘m so glad to be catching up! 6y
CoffeeNBooks I was a new teacher when they first became popular, and I remember hearing about how parents didn't want their kids to read them. I was curious, but didn't find the time to read them at first. A few years later, my stepdaughter started reading them and insisted that I read them, too. I wasn't sure I was going to like them, but I loved them! I'm so glad she insisted I read them! 6y
julesG I'm glad you get to read them now. 6y
TrishB @Reggie awww that‘s so cool 👍🏻 I remember queuing with my son for the last one! 6y

So I found this cute little idea on Pinterest, and I don‘t have a bullet journal so this is just in my current normal journal. I filled it up with all of the books I‘ve read so far in 2018, and all the books that I want to read.

THEN - I had to make a list of which books to purchase or get from the library.

THEN - I had to make another cute page with a new theme bc I ran out of space!

When I was 13, I was in a little play based off of the Iliad. My boyfriend was Paris, I was the twin sister seer that no one believed because of Apollo‘s curse (picture on the left), and it‘s a fond memory.

I‘m also a HUGE fan of Greek Mythology, and was read this after my obsession with Percy Jackson. It can be a difficult read, but getting a copy w a companion guide in it makes it fun to read.

BiblioTori @Crazeedi I get to do that this weekend! I have some cleaning to get done in the next couple of days. Even though I work part time this weekend, I‘m going out with some friends from out of town for dinner and a movie and I‘m so ready for it!! 7y

Day 18! 💜

Sharing a bit from my personal life today, I believe that all of my inheritance will come to me from the Lord. Every little thing that‘s gone wrong will be supplemented with growth and happiness in the years to come, thanks to him!

I‘ve struggled with my faith some over the last few years, but I‘m thankful to be back in a place where I can cherish His words and promises!

Crazeedi Trust in Him and he will guide your path. Blessings to you today 7y

Day 17!

This book is a celebration because it was my introduction into the world of Nicholas Sparks. I have been in love with his books and movies for years, and it‘s especially a celebration because...

I‘m moving to Wilmington in October! 🎊

So here‘s a picture of me at Carolina Beach from February when I went to visit @Bturner588 and fell in love with the coast.

#ReadingResolutions #April

wanderinglynn Congrats & good luck on your move! Wilmington is a nice area! 😀 7y

Day 16 (I forgot to do so many days, so late!)

Tragic: Macbeth! It‘s also tragic because I argued with my APLit teacher in 12th grade over this wonderful work of literature for 10 minutes because I said that I believed Lady Macbeth was controlling and manipulating Macbeth‘s actions throughout the end of the story, and she disliked my essay about Lady Macbeth the temptress. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Day 15! (Late!!)

The biggest book I‘ve ever read!

📚 The Unexpected Dragon: 852 pages

I read it in the 8th grade. My teacher (who is now a good friend) was tired of me reading ahead all the time in our literacy class. So she sought out long and endearing books for me to read while everyone else read together. Excellent book, by the way!

Day 14 (late!)

Unpopular Opinion: I *love* the Twilight Saga. The books are so much better than the movies, and this is the first series I ever binge read. ☺️

#ReadingResolutions #April #Late

readherwriteher I loved it, too. I read it right before the first movie came out, and I read all 4 books in five days. I called in sick, stayed up late and we ate cereal for supper every night. My husband was not impressed, but I could not put them down. These books pulled me back into reading after having my kids. 7y
BiblioTori @readherwriteher I read them in a couple of days, and my parents were less than thrilled because they didn‘t approve of vampire books. But I loved the story and the character development from the books, and I wish that the movies would‘ve done them better justice. Not that the movies are bad, they could just be... more accurate? 7y
Supersteph I loved them too 😊 7y
readherwriteher @Supersteph @OnlyMeJustT We can be a team of three. 😄 7y
readherwriteher @OnlyMeJustT I agree, the movies could have been more accurate. 7y

1. I am the firstborn! Woo hoo! To my mom at least.
2. Yeah. I wish I had more younger siblings.
3. A brother, and then two half-sisters and a half-brother on my dad‘s side that are 10+ years older than I am. They live in Germany.
4. The Sisters Grimm or the Baudelaires
5. Yeah. @PathfinderNicole and I are both firstborn and apparently both have complicated extended family.

Day 13!

Book to movie adaptations usually suck. Let‘s not lie about this or act like we all haven‘t experienced extreme disappointment in our favorite booking going to the big screen. We have. A lot.

This is one of the best adaptations I‘ve ever seen. The directors only cut out information that wasn‘t vital to the plot, and remained true to both characters. I need to go watch this, now that I‘m thinking about it!

#ReadingResolutions #April

hgrimes I think the filmmakers did a really nice job, and the characters felt spot on. I tend to be overly critical with film adaptations and can‘t enjoy them, but this was an exception. 7y

The Magdalen Girls | V.S. Alexander
post image

Day 12 (A day late!)

The Magdalen Girls is a fictional story based on the true accounts of girls who fell victim to the awful Magdalen Laundry facilities in Dublin, Ireland throughout the mid-to-late 1900s.

I recommend reading it, and then watching the movie based on the book. I especially recommend reading it if you‘re into international history.

Crazeedi @OnlyMeJustT I started this and put it down. The beginning creeped me out 7y

Pickpick

Read this book and watch the movie! It‘s such an empowering story, and it‘ll make your heart warm.

Side note: Robert D. San Souci (whose book inspired the beloved movie) came to my elementary school for three years consecutively and I have signed books. This is also my *favorite* Disney movie.

Day 11!

My misunderstood book is probably one of the most misunderstood books in American history right now. I chose it because when I was told to read it in the 10th grade, my teacher confiscated my personal copy of the book when I chose to read the uncensored version while the class read the censored version.

If you lie or censor history, it‘ll always be doomed to repeat itself.

#ReadingResolutions #Censorship

Tamra Wow, what an unenlightened teacher. 7y
wanderinglynn I‘d have to ask that teacher, why assign it if you won‘t let your students read the original version? I mean, if you‘re afraid that parents will complain, then don‘t assign it. 7y
BiblioTori The entire grade level was reading it. So four teachers met and decided to censor it, even though no students complained. I feel like you miss a lot when you read censored books. For the record, only the ‘n-word‘ was censored. Other slurs were left in the book. The same school liked to mark out curse words in library books with a Sharpie. @Tamra @wanderinglynn 7y
