Cycle of the Werewolf | Stephen King
post image

I just recently decided that I really want to own and read all of Stephen King's books (and books of short stories)! I just recently purchased this one - it's a much older book of his from early in his career - and I wasn't sure what to expect, but I'm actually really enjoying it so far! Who else has read this one? 🐾

Suet624 Not I! 1mo
Ruthiella Have you read this yet? @BarkingMadRead 1mo
BarkingMadRead I‘m not sure I have! I‘ve seen the movie though. I own the book 🙈 but goodreads says I haven‘t read it. I better fix that soon, I thought I‘d read them all 1mo

Ruthiella @BarkingMadRead I thought you had read ‘em all too! 😂 Howsa bout you @5feet.of.fury ? 1mo
Branwen @Suet624 @Ruthiella @BarkingMadRead @5feet.of.fury This one really flew under my radar! I didn't even know about it until very recently! According to my research, it does not appear in any of his other books of short stories/novellas. It's very short, less than 200 pages, but the illustrations are absolutely fantastic! Definitely worth checking out! 1mo
5feet.of.fury Never even heard of it! @Ruthiella @Branwen 1mo
TieDyeDude This was a fun book. Most of the characters didn't last long enough to leave an impact, but the illustrations were cool. 1mo
BarkingMadRead The #losersclub will be reading this in January, so I guess i will wait until then 🤣 if you decide you want to read more King, we are reading them in order. This month is Cujo 1mo
Branwen @TieDyeDude Agreed! I really loved the illustrations! 1mo
Branwen @BarkingMadRead Oh! That's really cool! Do you guys usually read one a month? 1mo
BarkingMadRead Yes, we read The Gunslinger for September. We read on our own and discuss at the end of the month 1mo

#HaikuADay #HaikuHive

Today‘s haiku was inspired by seeing the almost full moon as I was driving to the airport at 4:30 AM. There were clouds but the July Buck Moon shown through. (This is not my photo—freeway driving isn‘t great for picture taking.)

I‘m posting one book a day from my massive collection. No description, no reason for why I want to read it.

Pickpick

Patricia Briggs has a really compelling way of telling a story that I really appreciate — and this was no exception. An extension of the Mercy Thompson universe, this story hits the ground running and never really slows down. Werewolf politics, ancient history, dark witches, mysterious murders — it‘s all a rollercoaster that comes to a relatively satisfying conclusion. Will definitely read more in this series.

CatLass007 I love Patricia Briggs! I particularly love The World of Mercy Thompson. I keep forgetting that Adam is a blonde, for some reason. I just picture him with black hair. I started a reread of Mercy Thompson‘s world but got stalled because there are so many new books I want to read. (edited) 4mo
BookBr @CatLass007 Isn‘t she a great author?! The Alpha and Omega series seems like it will be not quite as excellent — Mercy is such a strong character, she‘s hard to match — but definitely worth a read! 4mo
CatLass007 I think the Alpha and Omega series gets better. I found a website that lists books in order. And there is a different website for the world of Mercy Thompson, that lists the mercy Thompson series, the Alpha and Omega series, and all the short stories and novellas in chronological order. I‘m going by that list right now as I do my rereading. So much information in each series is complementary to the other. 4mo

This brief werewolf tale was a total treat. The conceit of each chapter being one month of the year was clever. I loved the illustrations, and was genuinely shocked at the werewolf identity reveal. I do have to take away a star, though. I‘m sad to report that I‘ve realized that 1980s SK suffered from a terrible case of fatphobia. I do not see this in his later novels, but it‘s so obvious in these earlier ones. (And I‘m reading Thinner next. 🤦‍♀️)

I remember watching the film when I was younger and Werewolf films were all the rage. It was so long ago, but I seem to remember it was more ecological and thoughtful than this book which is straight up pulpy horror. I enjoyed it nonetheless.

I've been (re)listening to Patricia Brigg's Alpha & Omega series, narrated by Holter Graham. So far: Cry Wolf, Hunting Ground, Dead Heat, and Fair Game.

I think Dead Heat is my fav of the series, with Fair Game a close second. The background story arcs of politics and the supernatural are fascinating.

My #tbr this 24-hour #readathon
Plus the tagged book, which is on my kindle.
I'm halfway through 'Salem's Lot and would like to finish it this weekend, but I'll probably take breaks to read some of the other books.

julesG Isn't it a 25-hour readathon for you, too? Or did you go back to Winter Time already? 11mo
Leniverse @julesG Oh excellent, I forgot about that 😂 Although technically, I only need 13 hours. I read 11 last weekend because Thing 2 is busy this weekend and wanted to do the readathon early. 11mo
