No one talks Zen better than Alan Watts. I can‘t blame his son for cashing in on his father‘s legacy by publishing old audio lectures in book form. I kept this pocket gem in my work bag for the better part of last year. It kept me grounded and spiritually in a better place than I would have been otherwise.

catiewithac @JamieArc I just ordered it yesterday because I‘m barely coping. Also, I should mail your birthday gift this week! 🥳 3d
JamieArc @catiewithac I had ordered it for you to send with your birthday package but it *just*came in. That‘s okay though - it‘s one I‘m interested in as well. I‘ve been reading feminist rage books to prepare. I hope you have some good things planned tomorrow to distract you or help you cope. Hugs to you, friend 🤗💙 3d

Book isn‘t yet in our system: The Rain People by Jin Bo, Yi Yusun (illustrator)

“As a boy sits alone watching spring's first rainfall, he sees that the drops are turning into tiny people, who invite him to join them.”

Lovely book! I‘m not an art expert but I think the art is watercolor. The short of it is the boy joins the Rain People to enter the River of Sorrow and when they do life is restored to the land. This could be from Chinese folklore.

I am a wild over-thinker which truly gets in the way of my daily life. Maybe that‘s why I found this book so helpful. I listened to it and found myself agreeing with almost everything the author explained. I do believe I will live a better & happier life if I apply his advice. I specially love the fact that he has a whole section with explicit practice exercises.

This story would be a beautiful introduction to different word meanings in the classroom. The word Zen is described and given a description of on the back page and I think this specifically would be a good intro into other terminology in other languages

Zen Shorts written by Jon J Muth, and awarded the The Caldecott Honor in 2006 is a beautifully illustrated story of a Panda who tells wise short stories to the family he stumbles upon. This story follows the themes of mindfulness and Zen. This story gives reference to personal growth and choice as well which is exemplified in his short stories.

The audiobook narrator tried to imitate Alan Watts‘ voice and speaking style, and just no. There‘s only one authentic Alan Watts. Still a good book with lots about Buddhist history.

One of the most random finds I‘ve come across at the library. A book of haiku written by people in fits of, or at least in remembrance of fits of, road rage. We could debate their merits as ‘true‘ haiku but sometimes you just gotta enjoy the goofiness of it all!
