Checked out the newest #Austin Texas bookstore: First Light Bookshop. Delightful! A great curated collection of books-bestsellers, classics, and a couple unique and unfamiliar books I had to bring home.

Written by a 21 year old pilot as he recovered from burns he received when shot down during the Battle of Britain. Less a combat narrative than philosophical examination of why he continues to fight when friends and colleagues die around him. A selfish man coming to see the need to fight for a greater good based upon the sacrifices of those around him. Hillary would ultimately not survive the war.

My favourite is the tagged book. I think I liked because it how Churchill rallied the Brits during the #battleofbritain with honesty and to do their bit and also Larson‘s writing style helped to move the story along. #lockdownfaves

First #Light is the World War II memoir of Squadron Leader Geoffrey Wellum DFC, one of The Few.

After reading about the amazing women of the Air Transport Auxiliary and listening to the Big Finish box set ATA Girl, I had no patience for 500-some pages of casual chauvinism, anti-French prejudice, and general obnoxiousness from the members of Hornet Squadron. Also, there is no single protagonist or narrative thread, making this book just a series of events.
