#KeepLitsyActive. #bookshopping. @ljuliel

Andrew65 For me it would be my favourite authors, recommendations/ reviews from friends on Litsy and Librarything, and covers of books. (edited) 3d
EadieB For me it would be; author, recommendation and reviews. 3d
Andrew65 @EadieB Very similar! 3d
See All 21 Comments
EadieB @Andrew65 I like nice covers but if I like the author, recommendation and reviews, then the cover would not sway me to not read the book. 3d
Andrew65 @EadieB Cover would only encourage me to read a book for an author I don‘t know. 3d
DrexEdit For authors I know: reviews. For authors I don't know: covers then reviews. I'm including Litsy and goodreads in that reviews category so that might sort of include recommendations also. 3d
Karkar Author if I know their previous work or cover then review if I have never heard of the author. 3d
juls29 This can really depend for me. If I‘m just walking into a bookstore with no expectations the cover and title would do it for me, but if I‘m feeling a certain genre or just read and loved a good series I would definitely look at author and reviews! 3d
Rachel_Anne789 It would be author, recommendations/reviews, then the cover. 3d
Crazeedi @Andrew65 I'm the same as you, favorite author, recommended by friend or family, cover 3d
OriginalCyn620 If it‘s an author I‘m not familiar with, then cover and title are very influential. If it‘s an author I already know and love, then those things aren‘t quite as important. But length is always a factor too. I pay little attention to reviews, but if a friend recs a book, I‘ll read it! 3d
Andrew65 @OriginalCyn620 I only pay attention to reviews written by someone I know and trust on Litsy, Librarything or Goodreads. (edited) 3d
OriginalCyn620 @Andrew65 I do trust reviews by Littens more than anywhere else! 3d
LA_Mead For me it‘s a mix of cover and author... 3d
Cinfhen Good question!!!! if I know the author than trusted reviews if it‘s an impulse decision cover and price. Length is sometimes a deterrent #PageCountPhobia 3d
Lizpixie I‘m a total #coverlove reader, but author is also a big influence. 3d
gradcat I have to admit that I‘m easy prey for a beautiful book cover...shows you what kind of (shallow 😂) person I am, right? But I do have favorite authors to whom I am extremely loyal, and thus will read any and everything they publish, in order! 😁 Oh, and I should add: If I want to know about a new book just/coming out, I ALWAYS check here first to get a general opinion. 📖😊👍 (edited) 3d
ljuliel Thanks for the repost , Andrew. 3d
Andrew65 @gradcat Me too! Very cover driven and especially covers similar to some of my favourite books or genres. 3d
Andrew65 @ljuliel 😊👍 3d
gradcat @Andrew65 I know we have a lot in common...even the gastro problems, unfortunately...how are you doing with that, by the way? 1d

#2. Author is most: usually buy authors I've been wanting to try or those I already like.
#5. Price is next when used book shopping- it's fun to find good deals.
#3 Title and #4 length occasionally - a really good title makes me take notice, but less likely to buy doorstops.
#6 I never read professional reviews, but if I'm new to an author I'll look at Goodreads ratings.
#1 Cover yes, but unconsciously.

Billypar Great question @ljuliel ! I always wonder this about other readers. Plot and reading the first page are my other main factors, along with author and price. 4d
ljuliel Thank you for the detailed explanation. It‘s interesting to see what attracts a person to a book. I always notice the title first. It doesn‘t mean I‘ll definitely buy it just due to that fact, but I like unusual or funny titles . I also don‘t read the super thick books any longer. I used to like them, but the older I get, the more daunting they seem. 😊 4d
Billypar @ljuliel I tend to remember my buys where title was a special factor. Dana Spiotta's 'Eat the Document' and Jeanette Winterson's 'Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit' come to mind. Will definitely be picking up the tagged collection mostly due to the title. 4d
ljuliel I‘ve not read that. I hope it‘s a good one for you ! 4d

I have a complicated calculus for book picking. I arely go to the book store, since the Book Sorting brings a lot of books my way that I can take home if I want.
I mostly rely on particular publishers to find "already vetted as good" books - Persephone, Modern Library, NYRB, Slightly Foxed, Europa Editions are books I buy without hesitation ⬇️

Aimeesue …because those publishers reliably pick books I enjoy to reprint. I have a few authors I'll always buy, because, again, history says I'll like them. Occasionally, I'll buy a new book if several trusted reviewers like it, but usually I even wait to get those at the library because I rarely feel as if I have to read a particular book RIGHT NOW. That's more a function of space tho- I have SO many books, and not enough shelves. (edited) 4d

Hufflepuffle 1 and 2 for me! A cover definitely draws me in when book shopping. 4d
MoonWitch94 Me too, @Hufflepuffle and also the title. 4d
Hufflepuffle Yes definitely! My husband will spot books just from the title and say they sound like something I would read. 4d

Book lovers love to say, “There is no such thing as too many books!” I definitely seem to embrace that belief. But I had to split my book haul video into two parts so I am beginning to question myself! 😂 You can see part one here: https://youtu.be/t3DQJODpT3w

EadieB @Butterflyamore I have a copy of The River King but have not read it yet. I would be interested in reading Saint X, Trace of Evil, Imaginary Friend, Dear Wife, and Mark Edwards books. Also Never Have I Ever sounds good too.
I recently picked up a couple of books at a library sale. I got Pines by Blake Crouch which is part of a series that is now a major TV event on FOX. I was sent a copy of Britt-Marie Was Here by Fredrik Backman from a friend.
EadieB @Butterflyamore I was reading Doomsday King by James Rollins with a group and was asked to post info about the author and there was an interview and James Rollins answered that one of the best books he ever read was by Dan Simmons called Song of Kali so, of course, I had to order it. Here are some comments from the back. Think you know True Fear? read the most chilling book? You Can't be Shocked? Good Luck! Most frightening reading experience. 3w
Butterflyamore @EadieB I will have to look into Song of Kali. That‘s definitely piqued my interest! 3w
