My husband is the Springsteen fan in the family, but he surprised me with this book and I ended up really enjoying it. It isn't just an account of how Bruce Springsteen came to record the legendary rock album Born in the USA; the author explores imaginary albums that never came to be, what it means to be a heartland rock band, and how Springsteen's evolution reveals the cracks in the heart of America itself.

Deblovestoread Tapestry 💜 1y
BarbaraBB That‘s funny: I love Muse and I hate Bruce (his music, I admire the man himself) 1y

lil1inblue Carole King! Yes! 😍 1y
Susanita @Deblovestoread @lil1inblue I think Tapestry was one of my first albums that wasn‘t children‘s music. One of my siblings had an extra copy and gave it to me. (edited) 1y
Susanita @BarbaraBB I didn‘t especially like him at first, but my sister was a big fan. Once I went to one of his concerts I understood. 1y
BarbaraBB I read somewhere that is you aren‘t a fan, you haven‘t seen him live yet! So maybe that‘s true and I should go to a concert too! 1y
Susanita @BarbaraBB He‘s closing his latest tour in Dublin on Sunday 😉 1y
BarbaraBB His ultimate one? 1y
Suet624 Love all three 💕💕 1y

This might be sacrilegious but this is 18 hours long. Isn‘t there something that could have been left out? I‘ve spent days listening - on commutes, cleaning Airbnb‘s, etc. - and I‘m only 6 hours in.

Graywacke I loved it ☺️ But since I used a library copy and couldn‘t get all 18 hrs in before my loan was up, i ended up buying a hardcopy and reading the last sections. 3y
Suet624 @Graywacke I‘m hoping I end up loving it too. 😊 3y
Megabooks I bailed! This moved too slowly for me. 3y

Suet624 @Megabooks good to know! 3y
BarbaraBB I can‘t help you. I‘m no Springsteen fan at all 🤷🏻‍♀️ 3y
Suet624 @BarbaraBB haha. I used to be a big fan in the 70‘s and 80‘s. I‘ve passed on reading this book but it was sitting there on the library audio shelf (Libby) so I went ahead with it. I‘ll try it for a while longer. 3y
DivineDiana Wondering if you finished? I bought this book at a Library sale, but it is currently still on the ##TBR. I do find him interesting. 3y
Suet624 @DivineDiana I couldn‘t finish the audio. The minutiae was exhausting. 3y

Thank you for the tag @DarkMina ?
The tagged book was one of the best memoirs I've ever listened to.

“My music would always be my identity.”

So much humility, humanity and heart. From his humble beginnings, Springsteen never forgot what it took to achieve fame. He shares his faults and achievements and lays bare the long road to his ultimate success. It‘s easy to find this message in every story , note, melody and song.
This was a re-read for me but I found it much more engaging 2nd time around🎧🙌🏻♥️🎵 #NonFictionNovember

Graywacke I really enjoyed this too, although I‘ve only listened once. It‘s nice bonus that he reads it himself. 4y
Megabooks Now you‘re making me want to read it! 4y

Cinfhen He really comes across as genuine @Graywacke @Megabooks @AmyG and while I found the book long-winded the first time I listened, on this re-listen I was really moved and inspired. I did spend time listening to each song he referenced in the book, which totally added to my enjoyment. So happy I was compelled to listen again. 4y
Graywacke @Cinfhen great idea to add the songs in while listening to the book. I wasn‘t that organized. (Although he plays a lot when my phone plays random, so there was some overlap.) 4y
Cathythoughts Great review 👍🏻 Love him ❤️ 4y

Listening to Bruce share the inspiration behind his songs and then hearing the songs is really adding to my audio experience. I never appreciated this song before, but now I can‘t stop playing it♥️🎸🎧
