pickThis parenting book resonated with me more than any other I‘ve read. Its main goal is to help you raise kids who are able to make decisions for themselves in a safe environment at home that will translate well when they‘re out of your house. They talk about how helicopter or drill sergeant parents limit kids‘ maturity, while consultant parents help their kids learn through natural consequences. The key is empathy while still allowing them to fail.

Talk to your kids about things you love about them instead of saying you love them equally.
Never pigeonhole your kids by saying they are good or bad at something in front of other people.
Spend one-on-one time w/each kid & don't talk about the other kid.
pickA hard book to review because I see some faults in it (it‘s repetitive & sometimes contradictory) but I admire Gabor Mate and agree with everything he says regarding attachment and parenting. I love that he says ‘don‘t parent from a book - not even this one‘. He argues that we‘ve lost some of our natural instincts and because of this, & the way society is, kids have stronger attachments to their peers rather than adults which causes problems.
