A couple of my current vintage reads.

The Golden Collar (originally published in 1955 as The Smith‘s Hoard and then as Hidden Gold) is a children‘s holiday story. A brother and sister go to spend some time at their great aunt‘s house and end up finding an Iron Age hoard. I‘m always down for a good hoard!

Cathythoughts These look great Leah 👍🏻♥️ 4w
lazydaizee Nice book covers. 4w

Tamra Sweet! 4w
Ruthiella So pretty! 😍 And who doesn‘t like a story about finding hidden treasure? I was fascinated by archeology as a kid. (edited) 4w
LeahBergen @Cathythoughts I‘m into very light reads of late. 😆 4w
LeahBergen @Ruthiella I was, too! I would‘ve loved this one as a kid. 4w

This is a beautifully illustrated novella about an old woman looking back to a best-loved Christmas of her Edwardian-era childhood. A delightful (and melancholy) little read.

Tamra Sounds and looks lovely. 💜 4mo

Finished reading this beautiful book tonight. It makes me want to get out and explore some nature before the big heat comes in with summer. Seeing as we are being told to expect some nastiness weather wise, oh and snakes, I do not want to meet any snakes in the heat

I enjoyed the book, and the writing was engaging. I did think, rather than reading up on farming in 1900 he would have been better served to take a summer on a farm to learn (who doesn‘t know black snakes eat rodents? And maybe a mule instead of a draft horse?) But all in all it was entertaining. Like another reviewer here I‘d have liked more from the epilogue, but maybe he was planning a sequel.

My current read with a big ol‘ Saturday night glass of red wine.

I‘m not sure Miss Read would approve. 😉

Ruthiella Maybe if it were a modest glass of sherry? 🍷 1y
