An early Dalziel and Pascoe that was pretty good. The three storylines kept things moving well, and there were some thoughtful moments and conversations around aging. Not entirely sure I buy the resolution of one of the storylines, but whatever.

Clubbable Woman | Reginald Hill

#20series20days. The Dalziel and Pascoe series

I love these police procedural mysteries with a side of politics. Reginald Hill used these books to discuss issues that interested him. I think some of the books would feel a little dated now, we've moved on from some of these things, but I'm still sorry he died before he finished what had to say about government responses to the resurgence of terrorism. There are 25 books in all - these are a taste.

Dialogues of the Dead | Reginald Hill

A string of random murders.
"Dialogues" from a Wordman claiming responsibility.
Dalziel & Pascoe at their witty best.

A plot themed entirely on clever and delicious wordplay. Although long, Hill weaves a deviously twisted storyline that never slows down till the end making it worthwhile. Smoke and mirrors aplenty, with every chaos melting into one meaningful climax. Most underappreciated classic from a class A wordsmith.

Andrew65 @EadieB It is quite a good series. There was a very good tv series of it many years ago. Dalziel is a cantankerous ‘fat man‘ and Pascoe a University Graduate. Andrew65 @TheAromaofBooks The City of London is the historic centre of London and the financial / business district. It is known locally as the city and the square mile, as it only covers 1.12 square miles. This article gives more information on the wards covered as well as a map.

Andrew65 @TheAromaofBooks Greater London is the rest of London, most books will be set in Greater London. If it covers The Bank of England, St Paul‘s Cathedral, the Tower, Temple (figures in code type books), Barbican, the Old Bailey and London Bridge it will be the City of London.

Andrew65 @TheAromaofBooks Feel free to ask me at any time whether a certain location is in the City of London or Greater London as I was born and brought up in Greater London, however my dad and sister both worked in the City of London. Not lived in London since 1986 though. (edited) 4y

Andrew65 @TheAromaofBooks The city of London is such a small precise area it will be tricky to find some books that meet this requirement. I will do some research. I think some of the Da Vinci Code takes place in the City of London. (edited) 4y

Andrew65 @TheAromaofBooks I read Ratcatcher a few years ago and remember really enjoying it, as did my wife. I really need to get back to that series, only read the first one. It is only a short series - 6 books I believe. 4y
