I‘ve also decided to start this audiobook between listening to Kristin Lavransdatter. #Greenland #foodandlit @Catsandbooks

marleed Oh I read the Kristen Lavransdatter series for a college course - many moons ago. My roommate was in the class and years later named her daughter Kristen after the book. 5h

Bailedbailed

I reached 67% and have 3 1/2 hours at 1.5 speed to finish. I‘ve been arguing with myself about bailing all morning, and I surrender. I don‘t know if it‘s the narrator, the translation, or the source material but I dislike the characters, the author seems oddly obsessed with menstruation, and non-white male characters are not written well. I wanted to read this before watching Dept Q, but I think I‘ll skip the TV show as well.

mcctrish This is on my TBR and now I think I will take it off 4d
DGRachel @mcctrish There seems to be a lot of love for the series but @Hooked_on_books has a review here that captures some of the key things that bothered me. I might have been able to power through except I found the story itself and the main detective both tedious. 🤷🏻‍♀️ 4d
Hooked_on_books Yeah, there are big issues with this one. Bailing was a good move. 4d

#ReadTheWorld2025

In March and April I‘ve read 7 books set in or written by author from places around the world: #Italy #Switzerland #Iraq #France #Iran #Denmark #Mexico #Argentina

I have the #InternationalBooker to thank for most of these books!

GatheringBooks Oh wow! This is a fantastic collage. I plan on doing a half year post of all #ReadTheWorld2025 posts on GatheringBooks and this just might be central to that post - it‘s amazing! Which one is the book from Iraq? Is it Fundamentally, because I already have that one. 1mo
GatheringBooks @BarbaraBB i will move it up my TBR stack, then. 💕 1mo

I loved the subtlety of the story and the humor in this book. There are several phenomenally good sentences in here. The story is a simple one at its heart, but it rings so true. Turns out I‘m definitely a Nors fan.

#InternationalBooker

This was good and frightening. A woman gets caught up in the 18th of November. Every morning she wakes up to the same day. She thinks of ways to escape and get on with her life. It is a quiet book, and somehow it felt believable. I do want to read part II!

GatheringBooks I think once our #CampLitsy25 is over, I will dive immediately right into this one - it‘s thin enough, and I already bought book 2! I have a feeling it‘s my kind of book. Awesome progress in #ReadTheWorld2025! 🎉🎉🥳🥳 2w

This was a real joy to read. He even managed to find a good story about cake! Even though this is nonfiction, it explains the desperate need for fiction, especially literary fiction, to the wellbeing of humanity. Definitely worth reading in 2025 America. Seriously, this is a cheery, encouraging, and engaging explanation of everything we‘re getting wrong and how to fix it.

GingerAntics It even includes the morning he woke up expecting to read about America‘s first female president and woke up feeling horrible for America. It‘s so fitting. 2mo

Absolutely ADORED this description of musical chairs! 🤣😂🤣 I also thought the revised version he suggested would be more fun, and be a great critical thinking and creative problem solving exercise.
