Bookwormjillk Whenever they have conversations like that I think of Fival Goes West “There are no cats in America and the streets are made of cheese.” Sad chapter but I‘m glad they teamed up with the other family. That seems smart. 4w
BarkingMadRead @bookwormjillk it‘s a genius plan, i hope it works out 4w

ElizaMarie Glad you highlighted that quote. It spoke to me too ;) 4w
SamAnne Lord this chapter. 4w
lil1inblue @Bookwormjillk I loved the kindness and community spirit with the other family so much. It made the chapter easier to process. 4w
lil1inblue You are on point with the quotes you're picking. It's always something I highlighted, too. #greatminds 😘🤌🏻 4w
lauraisntwilder The dog and Grampa in the same chapter and it's only their first day on the road. Ouch. 4w
Bklover Well, that was awful. Poor dog. Poor Granpa. Oh, and they make me nervous every time they talk about their orange trees and little white house they‘re planning on. This doesn‘t seem like a HEA book, at least so far! 4w
BarbaraJean This quote stood out to me, too—and the next part: “If I go ahead on all of ‘em, it‘s too much.” Wise words from Ma. Also: I was all worried about the turtle and now this. 👴🏻🐶😭 4w

KAO This chapter makes me so sad. Such helplessness in the face of devastating loss. 1mo
willaful This kind of infuriated me because it made me so aware of history rhyming. These books are full of accumulated wisdom and yet we keep doing the same things over and over. Reading it at this very moment in history really drives it home. 1mo

SamAnne @willaful exactly. We continue to relive it. One of my clearest memories of high school is our amazing English teacher have us read this. Context: redneck timber town highschool mid-80s. All of us were “whew glad that doesn‘t happen anymore.” And then she showed us a documentary on the plight of orchard workers in CA in relatively current times. Have never forgotten. (edited) 1mo
willaful @SamAnne I'm glad you had such a good teacher. 1mo
BarbaraJean @willaful My thoughts exactly. All the bank stuff. All the faceless non-human/inhuman entities. All the shifting of blame. 😡 (edited) 1mo
dabbe @willaful @SamAnne Same here! 🧡🍁💛 1mo
lil1inblue @willaful 🎯🎯🎯 1mo
lil1inblue @SamAnne What a powerful lesson. And what an amazing teacher. 💓 1mo
SamAnne @willaful @dabbe @lil1inblue Raise a glass to Eleanor Dinkins. She terrified me at first. Then I loved her. And what a treat to get to know her when I was an adult. Even in my conservative red neck timber town, what freedom our teachers had to teach us! The 80s. Now I raise a glass to all the teachers out there doing the difficult work under difficult circumstances. I always thought it would get better, not worse. 1mo
dabbe @SamAnne I always took it as a compliment when I student would tell me that I terrified them ... at first. And I always waited for the magic word “But“ ... music to my ears! Here's to you, Eleanor Dinkins! 🍸 1mo
ElizaMarie This chapter gutted me. @davbe - I am sure you are one of those teachers people still talk about :) @SamAnne you are right back when we were in school I felt teachers were able to be so much more truthful now- it‘s walking on egg shells 1mo
lil1inblue @SamAnne Here's to Eleanor Dinkins! 💓🍸💓 My Ms. Dinkins was Mr. Joe Locascio. Teachers are so amazing. 1mo
lil1inblue @dabbe I think I would have loved having you as a teacher. I can see hints of it in the buddy reads you host. 💓💓💓 1mo
dabbe @ElizaMarie In both positive and negative ways! I didn't anoint myself as #crabbyabbe for nothing! 🤣🤣🤣 1mo
dabbe @lil1inblue You are too kind. I can sometimes come across as too teachery! 🤣😍🤣 1mo
SamAnne @dabbe new adverb . Teachery! 1mo
