❓❓❓ for my recent #IRLBookClub Discussion.

You're traveling to Shetland: Do you take the 1Hr ✈ from Mainland to Shetland or 12 HR 30 M Overnight ⛴ ?

You are gifted Season in Shetland: Winter w/Up Helly Aa 🔥 Festival, Short Days & Northern Lights? 🌌 Or Summer Simmer Dim & when no darkness happens? 😎

You make friends, they offer to teach a new skill: Fair Isle Knitting 🧶 or Sail the Seas? ⛵

Rereading. It‘s been 4 years since I read this. And I'd forgotten that ending! Also how all the middle aged people were having sex. Off page but still it was there. Yay! Thanks to my friend Haley that's also reading, I now see the Bella Sinclair as Shetland's Moira Rose.

Lots of character development for Inspector Perez. Setting of story during Simmer Dim when its never dark in Shetland was fascinating.

Bookwormjillk Short chapter today, but I might just have to read ahead tonight to see what Heathcliff is up to now! 4d
Bookwormjillk Just finished the weekend‘s chapters. It‘s like a car wreck in slow motion with Cathy and Linton 😬 3d
Crinoline_Laphroaig I'm gonna get a little Ranty. I've said it before, this is my 1st Read. I didn't know what to expect, but so many times I've seen Heathcliff grouped in with Mr. Darcy as a Romantic Hero. NO! Darcy has his faults but he'd NEVER act the way Heathcliff. Up till now Heathcliff's Evil have been directed at adults. His treatment of his son is despicable and I Officially hate him as a Character. 😡 2d

Cathy is the daughter. Catherine is the dead mother. Ok, I sorted that out.

Got the answer to yesterday's question of where Linton is.

Really Nelly??? You couldn't guess that Cathy would leave the Grange?

Given Cathy being a spoiled brat in this Chapter and this story so far, I don't see this going well. My guess is 2nd Generation is a bad as the 1st.

Ugh the Character Names in this book!🤦🏻‍♀️
Did Emily use the same names over and over on purpose to confuse the reader? Or did she use up all her imagination in the story and couldn't be bothered with coming up with different names?
For instance Isabella names her son Linton and her Edgar is often called just by his last Name of Linton.
#WanderingThroughWutheringHeights
#Pemberlittens #Chapter17

Crinoline_Laphroaig I've been listening to my chapter the night before so I'm ready to post in morning. Had to get out my print copy because I was so confused even after mulling it over last night. Also where is Isabella's son Linton at the end of this Chapter? Do we not know yet? 6d
See All 11 Comments
megnews For the last several chapters, I hadn‘t had to consult the family tree again. But this chapter I‘ve looked back several times even for one sentence to try to get them all placed again. I think it‘s not helping that different people are in different places between Wuthering heights and the grange. 6d
CrowCAH Agreed. The double names does get confusing, especially on a first read. But in re-read it gets a little easier. 6d
mollyrotondo So first Catherine dies. Then six months later Hindley dies. Isabella around the time of Hindley‘s death gives birth to Linton. When Linton is 12 years old Isabella dies. Can anyone fact check me? 6d
mollyrotondo Also do we know how Heathcliff earned his money? He gave Hindley large amounts of money toward his gambling debts and now owns Wuthering Heights so he is very well off. But how does he have all this money? Did I miss something? 6d
TheAromaofBooks @mollyrotondo - I think you're right with your timeline. And I also think Heathcliff has been vague about the money?? There may have been some implication that he was in the navy or militia or some such?? 6d
Bookwormjillk I‘m glad everyone is as confused as I am 😂 I‘m enjoying the ride though. 5d
Crinoline_Laphroaig @Bookwormjillk that's the important part! 5d
ElizaMarie Ha yeah! Like she came up with 3 names and was like yes! The best and only names forever! It's so frustrating! 5d

It's looking very Wuthering Heights at my house this morning with the full moon still visible.

This marks 1st time I've had sympathy for adult Heathcliff. Childhood H was easy to feel sorry for. Once he grew up not so much. His grief in this Chapter is so sad but also has me wondering how he will take his unhappiness out on others.

And I forgot to tag everyone yesterday. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Crinoline_Laphroaig My other question: If Cathy was so out of it, how did she deliver the baby? Did she come to when pains started? Why did Labor start when she was 7 months pregnant and basically just laying around? Is the 7 month baby significant? I'm Childfree by Choice. I've got no idea how this would work 1w
See All 10 Comments
Crinoline_Laphroaig ☝typing on my phone and accidentally hit send. Questions I have so many questions about this Chapter. 1w
TheAromaofBooks I'm not sure if just the trauma of her illness would be enough to bring on labor?? Seven months seems very young for a baby to survive outside of a hospital setting! 1w
megnews Illness could bring on preterm labor or something else could. I don‘t think she could labor to delivery unconscious. I also don‘t think babies born this early during this era would survive. During this chapter I was asking myself is this a case of the author not having children or being exposed to childbirth, writing about something she doesn‘t know without a bit of research? (edited) 1w
mollyrotondo I actually didn‘t feel bad for Heathcliff in this chapter. Catherine is dead after giving birth while incredibly ill and he‘s asking Nelly if Catherine mentioned him before she died? And says he hopes she doesn‘t Rest In Peace because he‘s so selfish he wants her soul to wander and haunt him? I mean he cares about no one but himself. 1w
rubyslippersreads @megnews I agree. Emily probably had no idea about this subject. 1w
batsy @megnews @rubyslippersreads Yes, good point! It's entirely likely that it was out of Emily's expertise, and not something widely discussed/known if you were a single woman because rules of decorum and whatnot. It'll be interesting to know if that was the likely reason. 7d

Bookwormjillk These chapters get weirder and weirder. I‘ll say it again as someone who has never read this book it is not at all what I expected. 1w
Crinoline_Laphroaig @Bookwormjillk keeps you wondering how much more dysfunction can happen. 1w
batsy I might have gasped out loud when I read this sentence 😯 1w
mollyrotondo But Catherine is so miserable! She blames Heathcliff and Edgar for “killing” her but really she caused her own misery. I don‘t feel sorry for her in the slightest. I agree with Nelly but not as it pertains to Catherine. 1w

This book isn't in database but I'm guessing the Shetland Library has it.....Because I'm a gardener, when I travel, I'm always interested in seeing how and what other gardeners are growing. Since I'm not going to see in person this year, I decided to find a book about gardening in Shetland. ⬇️

Crinoline_Laphroaig According to Google there doesn't appear to be much choice. I found and ordered this used one from Amazon. According to the Introduction this book, published in 1976, is the first garden book specifically about Shetland.

While it maybe old, it has a wealth of information covering most all the basics. And it has one of my favorite things a Month by Month List of What to Do in the Garden. ⬇️
1w
Crinoline_Laphroaig And the most important thing to know about gardening in Shetland? Shelter - "Where none exists, it must be made." Shelter from the winds, the sheep, and the rabbits. ??‍?

This was the year we were supposed to go to Shetland. I purposely made Raven Black my pick for my January Books and Brews because I knew I would want to reread the Series before we went. And because it's a great choice for January as it takes place starting at New Years and going through Up Helly Aa. We've decided to postpone our trip so instead I will be traveling to Shetland via Book. ⬇️

Crinoline_Laphroaig I'm a gardener so I searched out a gardening book. And I already had Shetland cookbook. Also have a ton of books on my Kindle.
2w
Crinoline_Laphroaig And then I discovered Shetland Reel Gin. Husband found some in Dallas when he was there on a business trip a few days ago. Haven't opened it yet. Right now I'm just enjoying how beautiful the bottle is.

Thanks to author Erin Green I discovered Spirit of Shetland Tartan and ordered a @auroraorkneyjewellery scarf. ⬇️
2w
Crinoline_Laphroaig Honestly I'm relieved we've made the decision to wait to travel instead of remaining uncertain. I've a Travel Guide as well because planning is part of the fun. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿⛴📚📖🤓

Happy Friday PemberLittens!

Has it's been a crazy week and you're behind?
On a Roll with Chapter a Day?
Or like me, weekends are busier so I read ahead through Sunday?

So I'm grouping these 3 Chapters together. You can discuss one or all here, your thoughts so far, or check out some of the awesome posts in the #WanderingThroughWutheringHeights Tag.

Reading should be fun! Do what makes you happy! 😊

megnews I think I‘m going to read a couple chapters ahead today since I‘ll be on the road for a couple days. 2w

rubyslippersreads I‘ve been sticking to a chapter a day, except for a couple of times when I got so interested I read ahead without realizing it. 2w
TheAromaofBooks I'm ahead because I started reading the on the 1st, not realizing that the group read wasn't starting until a couple days later haha And I'm staying caught up because I'm way more invested in what these crazy people are going to do than I thought I would be! 😂 2w
Crinoline_Laphroaig @TheAromaofBooks @rubyslippersreads It‘s like watching a train wreck. 2w
suvata Catherine, Isabella, and Heathcliff are reckless and unrestrained. Edgar doesn‘t understand and just stands around thinking, “WTF”. (edited) 2w
bio_chem06 I‘ve been on the struggle bus. I‘m not enjoying this read as much as I wanted😕 2w
Crinoline_Laphroaig @bio_chem06 yeah drama get old. 2w
ElizaMarie I finished the book really early because, I am so bad at doing the whole #ChapterADay, But I have been enjoying reading people's thoughts throughout. Anyway, yeah, always behind or ahead! Ha! 1w
Crinoline_Laphroaig @ElizaMarie if I wasn't committed to Chapter a Day I would have totally skimmed it just to see how it ended. 1w
I.be.Stef I‘m on chapter 13 and oh my gosh it‘s taking me forever to read😅😂😂 1w
I.be.Stef Anyone else bugged by reading Joseph‘s dialogues? I don‘t understand a word he‘s saying 🤦🏽‍♀️🙇🏽‍♀️ 1w
Lollymya I am still kind of confused…lol 1w
Lollymya Also….I feel like Heathcliff is hurt to his core and doesn‘t know hot to express himself. 1w
Lollymya And I was playing catch-up so I read 15 chapters pretty quickly. Also to Catherine is selfish. 1w
Crinoline_Laphroaig @I.be.Stef I've got no clue what Joseph's saying either. 1w
Crinoline_Laphroaig @Lollymya 15 Chapters! 👏🏻 Catherine sooo selfish. 1w

Heathcliff is back after 3 years and more drama happens.

This had me turning to Google. "Tell her what Heathcliff is: an unreclaimed creature, without refinement, without cultivation; an arid wilderness of furze and whinstone."

Furze is a thorny evergreen shrub. Whinstone is a term used in the quarrying industry to describe any hard dark-coloured rock.

#PemberLittens @jenniferw88 I found a wrong statement in the tagged #BuddyRead:
'... it's possible to read everything she wrote: Six completed Novels, three unfinished ones, three volumes of juvenilia...'

It's 7 Completed, 2 Uncompleted (The Watsons & Sanditon). I think writer considered Lady Susan as Uncompleted when it's actually Completed just Not Published.

Anyhow it has me planning a Yearlong Read of everything. 🤓

#ayearofjaneausten

Crinoline_Laphroaig Which I guess is small mistake, it took me a minute of Google to figure out and going to my completed Novels to find it. But these are supposedly learned people writing these essays. 2w
jenniferw88 Well spotted! 2w
suvata Nice catch 2w
ravenlee There‘s also an error in the Watt essay about Elinor reproving Marianne about accepting the horse from Willoughby. Marianne‘s response is to a different reproof - Elinor‘s censure over Marianne accompanying Willoughby to Mrs. Smith‘s house without chaperone or proper acquaintance with the lady. Which I also just posted about! (edited) 2w
Crinoline_Laphroaig @ravenlee I talked about how I didn't like the pretentious of some the Essays in another post with @mollyrotondo. I think #PemberLittens could match wits with some of these 'Scholars'. 2w

mollyrotondo I am reading from this one! I love it! 2w
mollyrotondo Why do you think it took three years for Catherine and Edgar to finally marry? 2w
Crinoline_Laphroaig @mollyrotondo I understood "three years subsequent to his father‘s death." To be just that 3 years since his father died not 3 years later in the story Timeline. But as I'm not a WH aficionado I could be wrong. 2w
Crinoline_Laphroaig @mollyrotondo but having just read @MicrobeMom Recap it is 3 years. 🤔 2w
MicrobeMom So true!!! 2w
MicrobeMom @Crinoline_Laphroaig @mollyrotondo took it has 3 years two marry her. But I need to reread and look at the family tree. 2w
MicrobeMom @mollyrotondo so Mr.Earnshaw dies in 1777 and she marries Edgar in 1783. So I think it took 3 year and Heathcliff is gone for 3 years. 2w
Crinoline_Laphroaig @MicrobeMom @mollyrotondo which makes sense because at the start of today's Chapter when Heathcliff returns Edgar is still acting like a Newlywed. 2w

Happiness is waking up early to read the new Detective Matthew Venn Short Story.

Definitely a short story at 16 pages. I finished reading before I finished my morning tea. But Matthew and Jen are there. As well as the beautiful imagery that Ann Cleeves is so brilliant at. The Two Rivers Series is a favorite of mine so it was a lovely treat to start the day.

Monday Morning is my time w/ this #PemberLittens Readalong hosted by @jenniferw88.

Enjoyed Chapter on obtaining Vol 2 of Juvenalia . But the rest of these are just to pretentious for my sake. Feels like 'Let me the Scholar explain things that you the reader are not smart enough to understand.'

Particularly disagreed w/ critiques of Northanger Abbey film & book. NA is satire and when you take it too seriously you miss the point. And the fun.

mollyrotondo I totally agree with you on some of the pretentious writing. As I was reading the NA and S&S essays I thought yeah us Pemberlittens discussed these same thoughts during our chapter a day reads. We know this lol. I do find the essays helpful in painting a clearer picture of the era Jane Austen was writing. I always enjoy a history lesson ☺️ 2w

Crinoline_Laphroaig @Jess_Read_This @GingerAntics I'm enjoying having whisky to drink with the book and I like it but honestly it's overpriced. Please Mrs Dean sit down and tell us all the gossip!

This helped some with figuring out Characters although I'm still going to need a Family Tree. 🤔

#WanderingThroughWutheringHeights
#Chapter4 #PemberLittens

megnews I thought it helped too. My book has a family tree. I‘ve bookmarked it and refer to it frequently. 3w
See All 15 Comments
TheAromaofBooks I did post a family tree that I found online and printed off. It's marked as spoilers because it shows who marries who. But it's helping me a lot with this story! 😂 3w
CrowCAH Is it gossip if it‘s the facts?! 3w
Crinoline_Laphroaig @CrowCAH "I never gossip. I observe. And then relay my observations to everyone." Biffy 3w
Crinoline_Laphroaig @TheAromaofBooks Thank you! I'll take the Spoilers for something I can refer to. 3w
Crinoline_Laphroaig @megnews I grabbed a screenshot of one. Definitely need to refer to. 3w
mollyrotondo My Penguin classics edition has a family tree that I look at about every 30 seconds 😂 it‘s not a big family but so difficult to keep everyone straight. But I love it 😂 I also love Heathcliff‘s intro into the family. Nelly says how much the kids and mother hated him and were cruel to him. Nelly didn‘t like him either at first but then warmed to him. But she makes a point that it wasn‘t that the Earnshaws were cruel and Heathcliff was kind… 3w
mollyrotondo …Heathcliff wasn‘t the kindest, warmest person either. Everyone in the book seems to be brooding in one way or another. The Earnshaws were definitely despicable toward boy Heathcliff but he was no mild weak child either. Very realistic character writing. 3w
Crinoline_Laphroaig @mollyrotondo it's definitely broody! You make so very interesting points that I haven't thought about. 3w
Bookwormjillk It did help a little but I might be more confused now 🤣 3w
suvata I think I have the family tree figured out but I wonder, if Heathcliff is so rich, why does he live in a house that seems to be considered “shabby” and in need of repair. 3w
Crinoline_Laphroaig @suvata I'm curious about that as well. Hopefully it will be explained as story moves along. 3w
suvata @Crinoline_Laphroaig i‘m sure it will be explained later in the story. 3w

2 Bails and a Pick. Which is making my Goal of cleaning off my nightstand #HolidayReads stack go quicker.

The thing that makes The Holiday Switch a Pick is main character's love of Books. And we included Book Reviews from her Tinsels and Tropes Blog. Yes the plot is a big simplistic but it's a quick, sweet, holiday read.

Bailedbailed

My 2nd Bail of 2022.

In effort to clean off my nightstand and because I've read some less than stellar Holiday Reads, I popped over to Goodreads. Several Reviewers complained about not meeting the 12 of the Calendar and that it's not a Christmas Story but set during Spring/Summer. The only Christmas is just barely mentioned in Epilogue.

I want my Christmas Stories to have Christmas. Shame. It has such a beautiful cover. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Crinoline_Laphroaig I did read the Epilogue. Way to syrupy sweet. 🤢 Oh and apparently the heroine of the book has long dark hair but we put a blond on the cover. #dontjudgeabookbyitscover 3w

I found this picture https://wuthering-heights.co.uk/locations/wh-tour-catherine of Mr Lockwoods sleeping spot. And while he had terrible dreams, I think it would make a perfect Book Nook. Just someplace other than Wuthering Heights. 😱

Librarybelle That‘s a great representation…thanks for posting this! 3w
Crinoline_Laphroaig @Librarybelle @BarkingMadRun I was trying to wrap my head around the description. So I went to Google. 3w
suvata I imagined it more “gothic” than that illustration. The picture you shared actually looks like an inviting spot. I just thought it would be more “dark and dreadful”. I guess I am really getting into the darkness of this book. 3w
Crinoline_Laphroaig @suvata I think it's dark and dreadful thanks to the company he is in. 3w

My 1st Bail of 2022. I'm trying to finish up my stack of Holiday Reads. To much Teenspeak and wasn't enjoying the shallowness of Obsession of Instagram Followers.

In it's defense if it was the 1st of December I might have slogged on.

#myyearinbails #2022 #holidayreads

CaramelLunacy What a shame, it's a cute cover. No sense in pushing through if it's not to your taste though. Happy First Bail! 3w
Crinoline_Laphroaig @CaramelLunacy it's a lovely cover. I think I was on a Christmas Cookie Sugar High when I bought it. 3w

😱 Doesn't offer tea??? Definitely not in a Jane Austen Novel.

Also much like Mr. Lockwood I was/am confused about who's who.

#WanderingThroughWutheringHeights
#Chapter2 #PemberLittens

Librarybelle Most definitely not a Jane Austen novel! 😂 3w
See All 26 Comments
StaceGhost I love this little tantrum haha 3w
witchyreader13 @StaceGhost Same! 😅 Go, Missus! 😜 3w
CaramelLunacy When I read it at school, the teacher gave us a flowchart who's who to help us work it all out (there are more than 3 names in the world, people!) 3w
batsy So not Austen! 😆 I read this twice before a long time ago and couldn't get on with it. I'm interested to see how I feel about it now. I'd forgotten how grim it can be. 3w
EclecticBookLover This is a bit confusing. I'm glad Mr. Lockwood is just as confused 😆 3w
suvata Ah, Chapter 2 in which we witness the impeccable hospitality of the Heathcliff clan. I get the feeling that they want to be left alone. 3w
mom2bugnbee I loved the phrase "corrugated forehead". ? ? 3w
Daisey I found this scene quite amusing, and I agree with @mom2bugnbee that phrase made me chuckle as well. 3w
Bookwormjillk This book is not at all what I thought it would be so far! 3w
TheAromaofBooks I love the way Lockwood just drops in on his neighbors and expects them to be thrilled to see him 😂 3w
mollyrotondo Oh I thought Mrs. Heathcliff asking if Lockwood was invited to tea was a riot! Lol his response of well no but I want some tea was just so perfectly characterizing a typical neighborhood pest. No one at WH seems too thrilled with their circumstances. The only comforter is the poor housekeeper who keeps having to rescue Lockwood 😂 3w
Crinoline_Laphroaig @mollyrotondo @TheAromaofBooks I think there's one in every neighborhood! 😆 3w
Crinoline_Laphroaig Is everyone scrolling the #WanderingThroughWutheringHeights Tag? Because there's some great post. Like the one from @MicrobeMom 3w
bio_chem06 You know what is so Jane Austen about this book? Why is everyone walking somewhere, getting stuck in terrible weather with terrible people and being forced to stay in the neighbors house!!!!!????? 3w
Crinoline_Laphroaig @bio_chem06 you're so right! 3w
TheAromaofBooks @bio_chem06 - Right?? Looks like it's supposed to snow, I think what I'll do is stroll across the barren fields with no landmarks and visit my grumpy neighbors who don't even like me 😂 3w
Crinoline_Laphroaig @TheAromaofBooks Good times right?🤪 3w
ElizaMarie @CaramelLunacy Ha exactly! Like they were only able to come up with 3 names and then variations of those!? 3w
TheBookHippie This is why I am a Bronte girl and not an Austen girl! BAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I love this book. I haven't reread it in a very long time. I am always amazed people think this is a love story....... 3w
LitStephanie Yes, she is so rude and childishly petulant! Although I don't exactly fall all over myself to host uninvited guests, either 6d

I've got 3 Readalongs going on right now. 🤪

#WanderingThroughWutheringHeights with Kindle, Print, but mostly Audible. My print copy wasn't in the database so I picked a specific one because it's a beautiful edition and so all my posts will be in the same Book Info.

Other #PemberLittens isn't Daily (schedule on @jenniferw88 profile) so I can read on less busy days.

#janeandthetwelvedaysofchristmas is winding down. Only 2 more days.

DivineDiana Finished it yesterday! I did not realize that there was a readalong for (edited) 3w
Crinoline_Laphroaig @DivineDiana not an organized Readalong. More a me deciding to read over the Twelve Days of Christmas. It did it last year as well. 3w

And we're off #WanderingThroughWutheringHeights!
First impressions #Pemberlittens?

Mine: I plan to listen to Audible the most so I'm really glad it Joanne Froggatt. She has a perfect voice for Narration.

I will post Daily and Tag the Group in the comments. (Will try to do this earlier but it's the Monday after a Holiday Weekend.) Feel free to join in the discussion here or make your own posts. #Chapter1

Crinoline_Laphroaig In a Crossover with @jenniferw88 PemberLittens Buddy Read I'm in curious to compare Darcy & Heathcliff. 'Darcy is redefined as a brooding hero mentioned with Heathcliff but that‘s not how Jane or Elizabeth see him. When Elizabeth thinks him arrogant she is not attracted to him. She falls in love once she sees him being good to people....She isn't secretly attracted to dark and brooding.'

3w
Bookwormjillk This is my first read and I was surprised by the first person point of view. I don‘t know why, but I was 🤷‍♀️ 3w
Crinoline_Laphroaig @Bookwormjill my 1st read as well. My only expectation is Heathcliff being surly.😆 3w
suvata Chapter 1 sets up a gothic environment (disturbing engravings in the architecture) and we meet Heathcliff who also may be a little menacing himself. (edited) 3w
bio_chem06 I can‘t wait to get home and read! 3w
ElizaMarie @Bookwormjillk I am listening to this one (my first time) and the first person point of view initially confused me because the narrator (whom I love) is a woman and so yeah 3w
Crinoline_Laphroaig @suvata it definitely feels Gothic. 3w
TheAromaofBooks I haven't read this one since I was probably 14 or 15, when I absolutely hated it haha So I'm interested to see if my opinion has changed now that I'm quite a lot older!! 3w
EclecticBookLover Very atmospheric. Lately t's been very grey and rainy where I live so it feels like a good time to read this. 3w
MicrobeMom The description of Joseph always makes me laugh! This is a book with little humor, so I always like to point it out. 3w
inthegreensandblues I've read this once before, about ten years ago, and kind of hated it. But I think it may partly have been that it didn't match my expectations. Now that I know what it IS, I'm hoping that I'll enjoy it more this time. And getting other's takes each day will be great! 3w
mom2bugnbee I've never read this one! Looking forward to it. I, too, am listening to Joanne Frogett - love her! We're doing a chapter a day, yes? 3w
Crinoline_Laphroaig @mom2bugnbee yes Chapter a Day. I'll add you to my list for the group tag. 3w
Crinoline_Laphroaig @EclecticBookLover it's cold here to perfect by the fire read. 3w
Crinoline_Laphroaig @inthegreensandblues I'm thinking Chapter a Day won't be to bad. 3w
Crinoline_Laphroaig @MicrobeMom these are definitely some moody people. 3w
Crinoline_Laphroaig @TheAromaofBooks I've read the Synopsis I'm pretty sure I'm still going to be Team Darcy at the end of this reading. 3w
mom2bugnbee @Crinoline_Laphroaig I'm in your tags - sorry! I read them in reverse order. 🤦🏻‍♀️ 3w
Crinoline_Laphroaig @mom2bugnbee no worries! It's a little bit confusing with 3 PemberLittens reads going on right now. 3w
mollyrotondo Definitely would like to be added to this discussion! I read the preface in my Penguin Classics edition and it pointed out that most people expect a romance story. But it‘s really more of a Romantic period story. I‘ve never read this one before so I‘m excited to try to keep my attention on this point. @Crinoline_Laphroaig I also feel like I will be remain team Darcy by the end of this one 😆 but I‘m expecting to like this book! 3w
mollyrotondo Lockwood also seems to be a bit of a dope. A cockeyed optimist maybe. He has such hopes for a friendly relationship with his neighbor that he is totally ignoring Heathcliff‘s true nature. Heathcliff seems simply cruel. 3w
Crinoline_Laphroaig @mollyrotondo I'm adding you to the group tag! Definitely agree on Lockwood and Heathcliff. 3w
witchyreader13 I love classic Literature & gothic tales. Jane Eyre is actually my favorite book. But I've put this book off for years because it sounded like I would hate the main characters & I was afraid I'd hate the book because of them. However, I am now a couple of chapters in & feel engaged in the story, despite Heathcliff being an a$$. 😄 Loving the gothic atmosphere. Can't wait to continue. 😃 3w
Crinoline_Laphroaig @witchyreader13 I like Jane Eyre. Need to read something by Anne to round out the Sisters. 3w
LitStephanie @mollyrotondo totally agree about Lockwood but also really enjoyed the humor of his super socially awkward first meetings with the Heathcliff household. I love how he thinks of himself as a hermit but has zero respect for Heathcliff's wishes to be left alone. 😆 6d

Oh the Blessed silence of an empty house. Husband who's been on vacation since Dec 23 is back to work. Nibilings left after 2nd long holiday weekends. And while I dearly love them all I'm throughly enjoying finally getting to sit down with this #PemberLittens #BuddyRead hosted by @jenniferw88.

I wish this book was available as ebook because it has so many wonderful quotes.

Intro - E.M. Forrester (Page 25 in my copy)
⬇️

Crinoline_Laphroaig "The art and passion of reading well and deeply is waning, but Austen still inspires people to become fantical readers." And "the Austen we discover in adolescence is not the same Austen we return to in later life.' Both of these are so true for me. ⬇️

3w
Crinoline_Laphroaig Other interesting things: How we label people a Collins, Darcy, Emma, or Miss Bates. It's movies and tv who add the Regency Paraphernalia. Jane rarely describes houses or dresses. ⬇️ 3w
Crinoline_Laphroaig And I'm most interested in this - How was Darcy redefined as a brooding hero mentioned with Heathcliff but that‘s not how Jane or Elizabeth see him. When E thinks him arrogant she is not attracted to him. She falls inove once she sees him being good to people. She isn't secretly attracted to dark and brooding. Will be interesting to compare Darcy and Heathcliff while #WanderingThroughWutheringHeights ⬇️
3w
Crinoline_Laphroaig And speaking of which I'm off to listen to Chapter 1 while doing laundry. (I'm not totally slacking) 3w
