Pickpick

Listed as a frequently challenged book by the American Library Association, and banned from a public library in 2004…

Elmer does not like to do the same activities other boys in his school do. This earns him a cruel nickname, even from his father. And yet, Elmer shows how truly remarkable he is. I love Elmer, and admittedly, I got misty eyed reading this one. His Mama is awesome too! Letter S #BBRC #PictureBook

LibrarianRyan was this banned for being “gay“? 2y

I love that this book shows that diversity is more than just skin color. It can be about our culture and about what we like to do as well as our skin color.

“just like that rainbow, the world is made beautiful because it‘s filled with many different kinds of people”

A bright and cheerful introduction to diversity, covering not only physical differences but communication differences, culture, family set-ups, liking/not liking big groups etc. It brings things together by looking at what we have in common and celebrating what makes us unique. The pictures are a joy.

JSW There‘s something about dragons. My grandsons were obsessed with the Dragons Love Tacos books a year or so ago. 5y

“Haven‘t you got any romance in your soul?‘ said Magrat plaintively.
‘No,‘ said Granny. 'I ain‘t. And stars don‘t care what you wish, and magic don‘t make things better, and no one doesn‘t get burned who sticks their hand in a fire. If you want to amount to anything as a witch, Magrat Garlick, you got to learn three things. What‘s real, what‘s not real, and what‘s the #difference.”

I ❤️ Granny Weatherwax!
