This short audio collection contains dramatizations of four short stories. The acting was pretty good, if a little over the top. Though I did enjoy the stories. The scariest thing about these stories is the sense of dread in daily life. Seemingly mundane things and events go pear shaped very quickly. Not the best thing I‘ve ever read, but it was a fun little read.

Ok, I get why this book is a high school staple. So much to ponder & debate and the ideas of technology, science, nature, humanity and accountability is still just as relevant today. I switched from audio to print for the last few chapters and I think that helped to move the story along. At times this novel felt weighted & heavy. Slow start, some bumps along the way but ultimately happy to have read this classic. Covers lots of challenge prompts!

Cinfhen It‘s not making any of my best lists @Reviewsbylola but it does satisfy my #ClassicsChallenge2020 3w

#Crave usually suggests taste but can you crave a scent? The main character in this book does! He has a keen sense of smell and it drives him to create the ultimate perfume.
I loved this book. It's so rich, macabre, and riveting. I had fun looking at all the different covers. There's definitely a theme!
#MOvember @Cinfhen

Jane Steele is not #sorry for the things she has done in the name of vengeance. Please don‘t compare her to the governess whose name unfortunately resembles her own...she may just have to take her revenge out on you!

I so need to read this whole book! It‘s original and witty, and yet I had to put it down ages ago to read other things. Some day, Jane, some day...but please don‘t hurt me for taking so long to read your story! #Movember

Cinfhen Would this work for #GothicHorror???? 3mo
erzascarletbookgasm @cinfhen these two tagged would work for Gothic horror 3mo
See All 9 Comments
Librarybelle @Cinfhen I would agree with @erzascarletbookgasm . Jane Steele is satirical, or at least I would classify it as more satire than gothic horror. 3mo
Cinfhen Thanks friends, I‘m just planning ahead for #Booked2020 @erzascarletbookgasm @Librarybelle 🤓 3mo
MaGoose I read the first page or so of this book a while ago and wasn't sure I'd like it. But, I kept it and may try it again before the end of the year. 😕 Hope you like it when you read it. 3mo

Wow, this was such an evocative, intensely dark and well rounded story. I can understand how this tome has become a well lauded classic. Having just read Haunting of Hill House, I was curious to go back and read an original Gothic tale. Aside from being a little too winded towards the end , the Audible original full cast recording pushed this book into 4 star status. Thanks to @erzascarletbookgasm @Sace @batsy for reading along with me.

4thhouseontheleft I think I‘m going to reread this next year! It‘s my favorite gothic horror. 3mo
erzascarletbookgasm You blazed through this! 👏 I am enjoying it much although some comments about the fairer sex made me 🙄 a bit! 😆 3mo
Cinfhen Perfect for #GothicHorror @4thhouseontheleft 🧛‍♂️🏰I know what you mean @erzascarletbookgasm although Mina was pretty kick ass 💄it took me about 9 days to get through book & audio, towards the end I felt it dragging 3mo

Sace I am still in the very early part of the audiobook. I've got a long weekend coming up and I hope to make some good progress. 3mo
Cinfhen The audio saved me on this one @Sace I did read parts on @SerialReader but overall it was the audio narration that kept me hooked! 3mo
Sace I can already say the same. Even the little I've listened too is addictive. 3mo
batsy Woohoo! 👏🏽 I'm so glad I'm reading this; I'm not sure what I expected but this is stranger than what I expected (in a very good way, if that makes sense 😅) 3mo
Cinfhen Agreed @batsy I thought the language would be off putting but it‘s pretty straightforward 3mo
Andrew65 This was a great production, I listened to it a couple of years Go. 3mo
Sace Egads! I just got to the bit when Harker saw the Count crawling "lizard-like" down a wall. ? *shudder* 3mo
Cinfhen Yes!!! @Sace so atmospheric and anxiety inducing 3mo
Cinfhen This recording is a great production @Andrew65 and I feel like the actors really took on their characters 3mo
Mdargusch I‘ve heard mixed reviews on this that made me decide not to read this. I believe @Reviewsbylola maybe? 3mo
Reviewsbylola I think you‘re thinking of Frankenstein. @mdargusch And don‘t take my word for it because I read it in college. 3mo
Cinfhen I was really pleasantly surprised by how well crafted and readable this novel was @Mdargusch @Reviewsbylola 3mo

erzascarletbookgasm What‘s Silk Punk?? 3mo
TheEllieMo Not done this one before, can I check something? By “free to read in any order” do you mean that if I read something in Spring that fits a Fall prompt, I can still tick it off? 3mo
Cinfhen Yup @TheEllieMo you can read complete seasons or bits and pieces from each season spread throughout the year🤓whatever strikes your fancy 3mo
Cailey_Mac Sooo basically you can read any prompt from any season, as long as you finish all the seasons in one year correct? And is this starting in 2020 or now? 😊 3mo
Cinfhen @erzascarletbookgasm silkpunk is a blend of science fiction and fantasy. silkpunk draws inspiration from classical East Asian antiquity. I‘ll find the list of recommendations and tag you 3mo
Cinfhen @Cailey_Mac it starts Jan 1 - Dec 31 2020!!! It‘s fun and people get really creative with their choices which is always great!!! 3mo
Cinfhen @Cailey_Mac and even if you only complete 10 prompts you‘re eligible to be entered on a drawing for each book read earns you a chance to win a gift card 3mo
Cailey_Mac @Cinfhen oh cool! I think I will join then, and I hope with this next semester of college I will be able to balance my time out better so I can read; this semester has been murder for my reading 😅 3mo
Cinfhen Awesome @Cailey_Mac don‘t stress about it!! Just read whatever you like and you‘ll be surprised how many boxes you‘ll tick off without even trying 🥳 3mo

Bookzombie I‘m not sure I‘m going to complete this year‘s challenge. 😕I told myself no challenges next year, but your challenge is always fun and tempting! 🤔 3mo
Cinfhen We tried to keep the prompts pretty vague @Bookzombie so lots of different books would work. Hopefully you‘ll find books that work without even trying 😊 and every book read earns a drawing entry so it‘s always a win!!! 3mo

Cinfhen Nope @Crazeedi @Hooked_on_books not necessary to “commit” to a plan!! Just read what you like/ when you like and you‘ll be amazed at how many prompts you‘ll check off. There are only 3 “rules” 1. Have FUN!! 2. U can ONLY use 1 book towards 1 prompt 3. To be eligible for the quarterly drawing you need to post a wrap up summary anytime during the last 10 days of the quarter (More info is given on the signup form) 3mo
Cinfhen Excellent @SaturnDoo ❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️looking forward to seeing what you read 😊 3mo
Crazeedi @4thhouseontheleft @BarbaraTheBibliophage @Cinfhen some of the prompts I dont understand, so I'm thinking I can ask for help?? 3mo
