This was very nearly a pan. Too long and unnecessarily complicated (with everyone writing down their story to someone else and strangely in the same flowery prose!), with at least one absolutely unnecessary love story. Boring from start to finish. #impossiblereads

julesG I'm listening to the audiobook. Two narrators, one female, one male. They are very good with different accents and voices. So far, about 2/3 in, I enjoy it. It has its lengths, so I'm glad I'm not reading it. 😉 7y

I'm already far behind! I'm too slow a reader to participate in two buddy reads at once 😫 Fortunately, the book is rather intriguing. But is the girl really 18?! I thought she was like 11! I'm confused. #impossiblereads

MizLit Huh. I thought 15ish because she starts her menses and the doctor was concerned it was late? 7y

tricours @MizLit has that already happened? I thought there was something about her being "almost 18" when she is given a tour of Oxford by a young man and she comments on how sheltered her upbringing has been. 7y

MizLit @tricours Yes. Way early on. Like page 50 in my version? She goes into the bathroom and is shocked. 7y

My audiobook for #impossiblereads rental came in! While I lament not being able to focus on the book itself with all my other reads and life stuff going on, I'll at least be able to finish it by time this month is over! Yeah. I'm cheating!

#impossiblereads When I first heard of this book I really wanted to read it, but then I read some reviews saying it was terribly historically inaccurate, so I never did. But here goes!

Mommamanzi @ForeverNerdy I'm listening to Alice with the audible app when I commute for work so only a couple hours a week..... it's really .... really dark. Kind of glad I'm not reading it and only listen to it during the day. Rape is talked about a lot and a lot of gore. Was NOT expecting it to be THIS dark. 7y

Mommamanzi @MarriedtoMrT it's not too small! The way @BrainyHeroine broke it down its perfect. The book starts off a little slow (I'm a little ahead now, on reading day Thursday thanks to a 4 hour nap time for the babies) but holy wow it got good! 7y
