Flowers for Algernon | Daniel Keyes

A riveting read from start to finish. The narration in the form of progress reports as we follow Charlie on his journey through the book is a clever way of moving the story forward. Glad I finally got round to reading it.

📕 Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes

📘 Blindness by Jose Saramago

TheBookgeekFrau {sigh} Flowers for Algernon, I just love that book 😌💕 3w
TieDyeDude @thebookgeekfrau I used to read it every year, but it's been a while. I've been wanting to read the tagged “making of“ book before my next re-read. 3w
TheBookgeekFrau @TieDyeDude I'm curious about how good of a read the "making of" is. Can't wait to see what you think. 3w
dabbe Loved teaching #1 and #2! Loved the ALGERNON movie, too. #3 is now on the TBR. Thanks for sharing. 🤩😃🤗 3w
AmyG You know when you can actually remember a book you read???? That‘s Flowers for Algernon. I read it as a teen and I remember holding the book, reading it, the cover. Such a great book. 3w

43/150 I found this book extremely infuriating. I know the government lies, and I know that government keeps secrets, that's a given. However, so much of what is stamped "classified-National Security" is just to cover up the government's ignorance, incompetence, corruption and greed. Every administration since FDR has promised that they would be transparent, they would be the government
of the people. Sadly, millions (billions?) ⬇️⬇️

RamsFan1963 of tax payers dollars have been spent by these same administrations to not only hide this information but to make it legally impossible for anyone to gain access to it even decades later. Democrats or Republicans, it doesn't matter, they all lie about transparency. 5 🌟 11mo
RamsFan1963 1st book finished for #MarvelousMay readathon @Andrew65 11mo
Reggie So it doesn‘t say who killed JFK? 11mo
RamsFan1963 @Reggie Sadly no, but he does bring up a good point. As much as the government leaks information, if Kennedy's assassination had been a government job, there was NO WAY it would still be a secret 60 years later. 11mo
AllDebooks This sounds great, albeit liable to induce raging in the reader. 11mo

TheBookgeekFrau @BookHoarder32 That's also when I first read it. I've read it quite a few times in the decades since and I never fail to sob my eyes out 13mo

UwannaPublishme I fondly remember the movie, but never read the book. I must add it to my TBR 13mo
TheBookgeekFrau @UwannaPublishme I never the saw the movie, but my father did and loved it. Based on our discussions, it seems like the movie sticks close to the book. But of course, you know . . . the book will be better 😆 13mo
UwannaPublishme So true! The book is always better! 😉 13mo

I won‘t lie. I picked this up because of the hilarious title.

One of the more interesting philosophy books I‘ve read. Writing is simple but engaging and coherent. Though-provoking. Relaxing. Occasionally funny.

Still properly nihilistic, tho.

Took me out of my bubble, and I couldn‘t put it down. The best philosophy books are like that—you don‘t necessarily agree with everything the author says, but you can‘t ignore it.

5.0/5

Israel‘s Mossad might be the greatest intelligence in the world. For a country it‘s size and what it has been able to accomplish since it‘s creation is quite impressive. Michael Bar-Zohar account brings to life some of its most daring missions. Highly recommend.
