Living a Beautiful Life | Alexandra Stoddard

One of the first books I ever read on making a house a home. Growing up in a dysfunctional family, clutter and chaos was the norm. This book was life changing for twentysomething me. Rereading all these years later, I'm surprised at how many things are part of my routines. Yes, it's a bit dated and pretentious in places, but it taught me so much: seasonal eating, flowers in the house, and setting a pretty table. 🌸

Crinoline_Laphroaig One of things that made this house 'The One' was this little area in the Master Bath. When I'm doing my hair and makeup I'm surrounded by things I love: flowers, candles, and my yoga frog. 🐸 3mo

I did a thing. I ventured out this weekend to see my daughter in Providence. We went to the Athenæum and then to Aleppo Sweets for some Arabic coffee with cardamom and of course some baklava. The Athenæum had a sale so I got 6 books for less than $10!!! No anxiety. It was lovely.

batsy That sounds lovely. Baklava + books 👌🏾 3mo

Cuilin @IndoorDame I recommend. It‘s a beautiful space. Have you been to the library on Nantucket? It reminded me of that. (edited) 3mo
Cuilin @Bklover delightful 🩷 3mo
IndoorDame @Cuilin no. I actually haven‘t been out to Nantucket at all since I was a girl, before I lived in the area. I used to go as a tourist to visit family friends. 3mo

These prism glasses allow me to read in bed without straining my neck. Where have these beauties been all my life? 👀

I found this look at the indoors super interesting, especially considering that we live so much of our lives inside in modern society. It covers a wide variety of approaches, but maybe take it with a grain a salt, as WeWork gets a lot of praise and, well… Also, it starts by looking at the bacteria all over our homes, so fair warning if you want to skip past that bit.

One season of MSW is MIA but aside from that - I‘m quite happy with this!

Still a lot of books on the floor that hopefully the shelf I‘ve now moved into my bedroom will be able to accommodate but that feels like a job for the weekend

Texted my grandpa and he came over to help me - between the two of us we managed to decode the instructions.

Now onto the fun part…

I had a head empty no thoughts kind of Kmart trip…

Questions that would have been good to consider :
Can I lift this by myself? Will it fit in my little car? Will I die navigating the extremely busy carpark after I lose my car? Once I get it out of the trolley, will I manage to get it in the car without the trolley rolling away? How am I carrying this up a flight of stairs? Should I have measured the space I want this to go in?

MrsMalaprop Good luck 🍀 6mo
Bookwormjillk Let us know what happens! 6mo
thegirlwiththelibrarybag Not gonna lie, getting lost in the carpark was kinda scary 🥹 entirely too many big cars trying to reverse park in and holding up multiple lanes of cars. Then there is me wandering around with the trolley looking for my car 🤣 it did fit and I got it up the stairs and into my apartment - but I haven‘t started building yet 😜 @MrsMalaprop @Bookwormjillk 6mo

thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Bookwormjillk, I‘ve made the side bits and am temporarily bamboozled by the rest of the instructions. Maybe it‘ll make more sense in the morning 🤞🏼 (edited) 6mo
julesG I've had similar days. I have taken pictures of my car in a car park to find it again afterwards. I'm sure you'll manage to set it all up once you've had rest. 6mo
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @julesG, I usually park in a different car park because the open air one is so chaotic but it is near the entrance to Kmart… but yeah, I was off by a good 3 rows… big fan of taking photos usually - but it wouldn‘t have helped this time. I‘m genuinely terrible at puzzles and Lego - so tbh what happens 😂 phoning a friend is always an option 6mo

Hard-pressed to think of a better way to spend my day than breaking up housework with little stints of reading on the porch and playing with babies— both furry and otherwise ❤️
