This book is so freaking interesting. The author gives detail of working for Salomon Brothers in the 1980s right as they were at the apex but about to fall apart. My co-op somehow snuck this into her development reading.

This gem is back to its old tricks (commuting). Seen here with the enormous pile of stuff I "needed" to take to the office today.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 Oof—this guy (Dalio) come off as a psychopath in this book. I read his book Principles a few years ago and remember finding it interesting, although I couldn‘t tell you what any of the principles were. This portrayal is rough. In addition to him being an abusive boss, the lack of any validation or testing of the tools he touts as the keys to everything is just 🤯. Worth a read if you like investigative journalism, esp. around business!

#weeklyforecast

There‘ll definitely be more books than this in my week, as I can‘t seem to stop myself from starting new books at the moment and, with the Women‘s Prize for Fiction long list this week, I‘ve got no chance!

I‘ve just started the two on the left, for the NF long list, and both seem really interesting. The Postcard is the one that‘s drawing all of my attention right now I just can‘t put it down. I‘m about halfway through Talking.

LeeRHarry I read one of Laura Cumming‘s previous books - see tagged - and really enjoyed it, so Thunderclap intrigues me as does The Britannias. NB just seen that you have read that one too. 😊 (edited) 2mo
Cathythoughts Can‘t wait to start Postcard ❤️ 2mo
squirrelbrain Yes, I was just about to respond that I enjoyed On Chapel Sands too! @LeeRHarry The Britannias seems to be personal memoir intertwined with women‘s history, which should prove interesting. 2mo

rockpools I‘m looking forward to your thoughts on The Britannias. I really thought I‘d love it, but yeah. I seem to have switched my allegiance to Eve, which is (suprisingly) BRILLIANT. 2mo
squirrelbrain Did you start The Britannias yet? @rockpools I‘m having a real issue with magpieness- all the books are so shiny and sparkly I can‘t stick to just one! 2mo
rockpools @squirrelbrain 😂😂Magpieness is a thing! I‘ve read the first chapter… I‘ll read a couple more… but I don‘t know if I‘ll get through it when there are so many other shinies! (And I want to know more about the prehistoric squirrel-weasel-mice of Eve. Weird. But more important than islands to me right now. Very weird.) 2mo
squirrelbrain Well, you know the squirrel-weasel-mice are far more important to me too! 🤣 @rockpools 2mo
youneverarrived I‘m listening to Thunderclap at the moment - enjoying it so far. 2mo
BarbaraBB Great plans Helen! It‘s going to be an exciting week! Happy you‘re loving The Postcard! 2mo

Excellent clear and concise book on how to start investing in the stock market. It‘s literally a step by step guide, starting with how to open a brokerage account, with smart investing tips. I recommend to beginners.

The way to wealth, is not only to capitalize on the magic of long-term compounding of returns, but to avoid the tyranny of long-term compounding of costs.
