This book jumps around a bit, but if you can tolerate that I found it well worth the read. Starting chapter 10, the author, Art Cullen, has included some great writing on the issues facing rural ag communities. He‘s described population loss and worldwide immigration, agriculture practices, pollution and the need for more sustainable solutions across the board. If you want to better understand food, US politics, and climate; read this book.

June #storygraph book report, right on track for 52 books this year!

#camplitsy25 pick Wild Dark Shore and a Murderbot novel take first place!

I think that‘s the last of the Murderbot novels. I hope Martha Wells‘ health improves and that she can possibly write more, I‘m obsessed with the series.

julesG She's working on another Murderbot, expected next year. I asked her on BlueSky not expecting an answer. So, was doubly happy when she replied. 1mo
Suet624 @julesG that‘s lovely that she responded to you. 1mo

My reading is getting quite interesting at this point of the year- novels for school, memoir for book club, and sci-fi & fantasy for relaxation! Enjoyed the tagged new release as a fan of the Normal Gossip podcast for my commute to work.

OK stories about NYC people. Barkeepers, old people, runaways, and others. Mostly right after 9-11. Best for native New Yorkers probably.

In one way this book is exactly what it says it‘s about but in another way I feel it‘s lacking &too surface level. I feel the latter has more to do w/me than the book. I didn‘t know of McKinney or her podcast previously; I was drawn to this book b/c I‘m someone who simultaneously loves &hates gossip &was hoping for some insight into our obsession w/it at a more psychological &social science level. This largely discusses celebrities &reality tv.

Reggie The podcast is effing hilarious. It‘s real low stakes gossip but the situations and where people find themselves is so outrageously funny. 4mo
Kristy_K @Reggie That‘s the kind of gossip I love to listen to! 4mo

★★★★☆

Raised lots of interesting questions. Neufeld's art was good and sometimes unexpectedly clever and funny.
