This seems so obvious, and yet it‘s just not true for A LOT of men. I‘m certainly not saying every man, but the loudest, most vocal, most powerful men certainly. Not to mention all the men who look up to those men as the ideal of manhood and masculinity.

TheBookHippie A man attaches himself to woman - not to enjoy her, but to enjoy himself.

GingerAntics @TheBookHippie she was actually comparing heterosexual ideals to queer ones. That in heterosexual culture it‘s about what is most pleasurable to the man, not is pleasurable for the woman, ever. In queer culture it‘s how much pleasure a body can experience. Full stop. She was baffled by a survey where every straight man said sex was over when he came. She said “I can‘t imagine sex with my wife being over just because either of us came.” 🤣😂🤣 8h
GingerAntics @TheBookHippie basically, the whole books can be boiled down to “straight men think they are entitled to sex” and “heterosexuals, are you okay?” 8h
TheBookHippie @GingerAntics exactly. Men think sex is for them. That‘s it. Women are an object to achieve it whether they want it or not. 8h
GingerAntics @TheBookHippie yup! I loved this book. It was just a little snarky, just a little funny, but very poignant and important. 6h

(This is off the top of my head, there are too many to sort through.)

1. Philip Marlowe from...well...nearly every Raymond Chandler novel.

2. Stevens from Remains of the Day

3. Arthur Dent from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

dabbe I almost chose Marlowe or Spade! I can't believe I have still never read HITCHHIKER'S. On the list! Thanks for sharing! 💙❄️💙 1y

Pickpick

Yes. To summarize the book in one quote, "....but in the heart of every man is a desperate desire for a battle to fight, an adventure to live, and a beauty to rescue." I couldn't agree more. This is my second time through this book. It hit home this time through in ways it didn't the first time. Men, read this.

I've read this before. I think it will be different this time. Real men are needed at this point in history. Men with character and heart.

Desha I‘ve read his wife‘s book called Captivating. It was very encouraging…my small group read and discussed it and grew a lot from it! Looking forward to your review of his book! 2y

“Not having a father meant that in the main I observed men rather than got to know them, and the more I observed them the less I trusted them.”

This one really resonated with me. I know this place all too well. I am struggling with this past of myself as we speak.

This book has been touching. Each letter is more touching than the last, possibly because each letter is a little deeper into the heart of the man.
