A little late. I got 14. 3 favs are the tagged which I read sooo many times, Bud not Buddy, and The Westing Game which I also read many times. 3 I think should have been in there (so hard to choose): Elijah of Buxton, Jefferson‘s Sons, The War that Saved my Life. But there‘s so many. 1 I want to read: Walk Two Moons because it was my daughter‘s fav when she was young. #tlt

dabbe LOVE your choices! WALK TWO MOONS is a fave of mine, too! Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🖤🩶 1d

I‘m surprised at how many of these I‘ve never even heard of! All three of these are about strong young women, and two are still on my bookshelf. I‘m pretty sure I did a (voluntary) study of “A Wrinkle in Time” when I was in teacher‘s college.

Runners-up: The Grey King, Jacob Have I Loved, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry.

TheKidUpstairs I was surprised by that, too! So many that I was totally unfamiliar with. LOVE Mixed-Up Files, too, I read it when I was older but was totally changed by it. 4d
dabbe Same here! I might have to try a Newbery buddy read to see if anyone's interested! Love your choices. Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🖤🩶 3d

21/104, thanks in large part to using a literature-based curriculum when I homeschooled (we read a lot more than 21 books, but many weren't Newbery Medal winners).

Some faves:
-Walk Two Moons
-Bud Not Buddy
-Caddie Woodlawn

And fave series:
-Dark is Rising
-Chronicles of Prydain (awesome on audio!)
-The Moffats

Singout My Grade 13 English independent study was a comparison between the Dark is Rising series and the Narnia Chronicles. (edited) 4d
dabbe Ya kicked my booty! Love your choices, too. Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🖤🩶 4d
ImperfectCJ @Singout Ooh! I hadn't even thought of comparing those two series, but it's a really interesting comparison...I'm going to have to devote some time to mulling this over. I actually have been thinking about a Dark is Rising re-read because I read them with my kids before in kind of a binge, and they're all mixed up in my memory. 4d
Singout It would have been really interesting to go into Christian versus Celtic spiritualities, but I don‘t think I was developed enough for that: I think I focussed more on mythological elements. 4d

#TLT #ThreeListThursday

This retired English teacher's score sucked! 😂 Though the 17 books I did read were not from childhood but from my years teaching middle school. My 3 choices are for the following reasons:
JOHNNY TREMAIN: #love
OUT OF THE DUST: #lovetoinfinity--in my top 5 list of fave books of all time!
CHARLOTTE'S WEB: Only an Honor winner? #wtf?

Here's the link if you haven't played yet: https://shorturl.at/kosig

Texreader I only read 3 4d
dabbe @Texreader If I hadn't taught middle school, I would have read 0! You're in good company; most of us scored less than 20. 😂 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🖤🩶 4d
Texreader @dabbe I do have some on my bookshelves I hope to read someday. 4d

Texreader @dabbe What subject did you teach? 4d
dabbe @Texreader English! So you'd think I would have read more of these! I mostly taught high school, though, so zero Newbery winners for that age group! 🤩😂😘🤩 4d

dabbe @Texreader Same here. Plus I want to reread JOHNNY TREMAIN again. I have my original teacher copy with all of my notes in it--same for OUT OF THE DUST. 4d
curiouserandcurioser It was fun to play:) 4d
dabbe @curiouserandcurioser Yay! I love taking polls! 🤩😂🤗 4d
DogMomIrene I got 17 too😂 A mix from my childhood & teaching years. That committee, though. Sometimes they pick books that may be all fancy pants literary, but good luck enticing a child to read it. 1d

Well, I know what I need to do this year, 3/104

Bud not Buddy
The Giver
Bridge to Terabithia

Any recommendations for books I NEED to read?

@dabbe

dabbe I have one. It's in my top five favorite books of ALL time: OUT OF THE DUST by Karen Hesse. It's a book of poems that tells the story of a girl going through the Great Depression. I cannot say enough how much I love it. I have a feeling most of us will have some books to add to our TBR--if we want to read children's books that is! The 17 books I read were ones I read while teaching middle school in the 90s! Thanks for playing and sharing. 🤩😂🤗 4d
The.Great.Catsby @dabbe thank you for the rec!! Yeah, I think teachers have a little bit of an advantage, haha. Thank you for your years of service! I come from a family of educators and I know it is really hard work. 4d
dabbe @The.Great.Catsby Yeah, it would be bad if we had the students read a book that we hadn't read! 😅 A couple of teachers did that at my old high school a few years back; the principal was fired, and the department chair lost her position. 😱 4d

Singout I actually thought it was kind of cool in Grad 11 (1986) when we were asked to find our own sci-fi book and read it. The teacher somehow managed to do really well with that without actually knowing all the books we were thinking/writing/presenting about. (I got off the hook for doing a presentation because he could see I was terrified.) 4d
The.Great.Catsby @dabbe OMG! Well, hopefully they learned from that now read the books they teach. 🙃 1d
The.Great.Catsby @Singout WHAT?!?! That's crazy. And that's putting a lot of faith into you all. Glad no one went off the deep end with that. Haha. I loved when teachers pushed me outside of my comfort zone, but managed not to push me too hard for me to end up in the terrified zone. 1d
Singout Yes, the book I went with was The Hitchhiker‘s Guide to the Galaxy, because I loved the absurd humour and it seemed as much fantasy as hard-core sci-fi. I would guess that he did vet the books a teeny bit before letting us plunge in. 1d
