4.25⭐️

The one thing I can truly say about this series is that Sarah Beth Durst sure knows how to create a very vivid world. I can easily see every type of spirit she depicts and the formations of the all the tree buildings.

I think this is one of my favourite books. It all just came together so perfectly in the end. I genuinely didn‘t know how/if the conflicts of this story were going to get solved. I read the last half like lightening because I couldn‘t put it down!! This is definitely a “love” from me!

This was the second book in The Highland Guard series. I really liked it! The way she writes her Highlanders is perfection - I can‘t describe it any better than that. The story itself is good, and kept the tension going. But I do love (spoiler) when characters finally break the barrier that‘s been holding them apart for 300-400 pages. It‘s so satisfying!

The Dinner by Herman Koch & Psycho II by Robert Bloch are tied for my worst read of 2018. I hated both of these & it is rare for me to ever hate a book. I'm going to try and attempt to block these two from my memory! #WorstReads

CouronneDhiver No way! 😕 I liked The Dinner a lot - the characters were all horrible people but the story was interesting 12mo
KrystleTheBookSlayer @CouronneDhiver usually I am pretty forgiving towards unlikable characters, but I think Herman Koch found my limit. I even remember slowly developing a migraine while reading the story. I do see how it could start some interesting discussions though, it just wasn't for me...but at least there were some yummy food descriptions 😂 12mo
CouronneDhiver 🙈😆 Yep! 12mo

1) Nothing really photo worthy happened, but I am about to give myself the rare treat of delicious Schwan's ice cream. 🍦🍨😋
2) 1 audio & 1 physical. I haven't had much energy to physically read lately.
3) No, except sometimes in the morning.
4) Nope
5) Most recently I struggled through Psycho II, it was altogether awful and it did not flow or fit with the original at all.

This is another sweet story in this series. These are just feel good books.

“All book jackets and covers are ostensibly advertisements, but the mass-market paperback must be the most convincing of them all. With only a limited time frame in which to attract the proverbial fish, the lure must be bright and shiny.”

An ode to the #art of the #massmarket #paperback and the #artists who created their covers.

I really enjoyed the story of Bree and Jake, much more than Abby and Trace tbh. And the story between Mick and Megan has started to get interesting. I‘m looking forward to reading the next book about the O‘Brien family. Next up, Kevin‘s story...

There were parts that were good, but overall it was bad. The story reads as a B rated horror movie, it's hard to believe that it was written by the same person who wrote Psycho. It is also clear that Bloch is very bitter towards Hollywood.

The characters are one dimensional & Norman is barely even in the story. For the most part it was boring & cliche. Of course, the story was somewhat outdated, but that's the least of its issues.
TW for rape.
