Book #13 of 2025: “The Measure” by Nikki Erlick
It presents an interesting question: if you could know when you‘d die, would you? And how would you live life differently? I enjoyed the premise and that Erlick didn‘t overlook the inevitable social problems that would come with a new way to discriminate. The writing wasn‘t my favorite. A bit too staccato with a few too many cliches.
I just realized it has been several months since I posted on here. Still reading and keeping up on seeing what others are posting but I've been not mentally able to come up with posts to share. So for now, enjoy my cat Olive who is unsure of her new treat lol. Reading tagged book this weekend
A different book with focus on “strings” giving the recipient a chance to see how long they would live. I found the way individuals reacted interesting. I like the characters and think this book will remain with me for a long while. 3.75/5⭐️
But whatever we can offer, our interventions, and the risks and sacrifices they entail, are justified only if they serve the larger aims if a person‘s life. When we forget that, the suffering we inflict can be barbaric. When we remember it the good we do can be breathtaking.
I‘ll read all weekend to help bring the average up…🤣😂
But sometimes I think we forget that it also takes strength to be able to let go 🧵
#ReadingBracket2025 Fiction update - first half of the year!
June's pick was The City We Became, which I really loved, but ultimately The Measure just hit me the right way and it has stuck with me. So it is moving on to the next round

I think everyone should read the tagged book… it will make you think and is a book that has stuck with me since I read it!!!
Awakening call that everyone will finally face the final days of themselves or their loved ones. Great insights how to balance the quality of the final days and the length of life remaining.
