Officially don‘t think LitRPGs are for me. I‘m pretty sure this is a me problem. I find it boring listening to in-game stats and it feels like it‘s interrupting the story. When you actually play RPGs you‘re more immersed in it, and the character has always been a part of the world they‘re inhabiting. I appreciate the concept of us normal people being thrown into a video game, but it‘s not as exciting as I thought it would be.

So far, the two LitRPGs I‘ve tried were a bust. Hopefully this latest listen can redeem the genre for me. You would think a gamer who loves playing RPGs and reading fantasy would take to it immediately, but so far it hasn‘t worked for me.

It was really fortuitous that I reread “Zoe‘s Tale” immediately before starting “The Shattering Peace”. There are several characters that recur and are central. I really enjoyed this book. I love Scalzi‘s humor! 😊

Okay, yes, I cried several times but I would NOT describe this as an emotionally devastating read. What it had to say, the strength of the relationships and the actions taken both as a result and in spite of those connections, to care for those around you, and also not just your own species at large, but the fate of a fragile peace for many beings, *UGH*, I love the way Scalzi writes this series. 1/?

83/100 Its been 10 years since the last Old Man's War novel, The End of All Things, but Scalzi drops the reader back into this universe as if it was yesterday. We're quickly brought up to speed on the tenuous relationship between the Colonial government, the alien Conclave, the Consu, and the Earth. While there is plenty of snarky humor in this book, I wouldn't label it as humorous, like Starter Villain or When The Moon Hits Your Eye, it's more ⬇️
