Grrlbrarian Agreed! This book freaks you out & tugs at your heart at the same time. SO well done! 7y
EchoLogical I gave it a "so-so" only to think about it and upgrade it later. I hated Mary. She was incredibly unlikable but the book stayed with me after I read it, so I agree it was well done. 7y
GondorGirl This is the only "zombie" series I've ever enjoyed. Actually, I just bought the ebook collection of short stories from this universe. It'll probably be one of my next reads. 7y

Playing #anditsaugust catch-up now that I'm back with my books for a few days. Here are two with #drinksoncovers I feel like the tagged book' series #needsmorelove - yes Hitchhiker's Guide is a killer series, but I ❤️ Dirk Gently a little bit more.

#anditsaugust #needsmorelove To understand why this book, I need to tell you a story.

When I was 12, I was given a single volume of Lord of the Rings for Christmas. I read and reread that book until my father eventually decided enough was enough. He took it and put it on a high shelf in a closet until I read Fahrenheit 451. I didn't read any sci-fi after that.

Several years later, and this book made me fall in love with sci-fi. @RealLifeReading

Texreader Great story. Thanks for sharing it. 7y
elkeOriginal Gorgeous edition. I love that you rediscovered sci fi! 7y

The monthly photo challenges here on #Litsy has taught me a lot about my reading habits...for instance I don't really read obscure little books or books that #needsmorelove
Most of what I read is rather well known.
So here is a photo of my Ted Dekker collection and I would like to see more on and about his work on social media as well as #CharlesMartin and more #SouthAfricanAuthors

A slightly under-the-weather Sunday with asthma junk has had me napping most of the day but I did manage to make Nigella's Tomato Rice Soup (a cheat's recipe that uses good jarred sauce) 😆👍for #soupersundays & as I read the 2nd book first, I'm finally getting around to reading this book. Nods to @Lizpixie for reminding me with her #needsmorelove post yesterday.❤️Link to the soup recipe with my add-ins (artichoke hearts & basil) is👇🏻 #soup🍲❤️

emilyhaldi Yum!!! 😛 7y
MegD511 Looks delicious 7y

DebinHawaii @emilyhaldi @MegD511 Thank you! 😀 @Texreader @Blaire Hope you enjoy it--it's great for such a quick soup.🍲👍 @Lizpixie I am so far! I figured as much as I enjoyed The Forbidden Garden I would--even if I know what happens. 😆👍 7y

Olivia Laing #needsmorelove I haven't read To the River yet but the other two are really interesting. The tagged book is about writers and their connection with alcohol & The Lonely City is about loneliness in artists/writers and in their work. She brings her own life into both books but it's done in a way that doesn't distract from the people she writes about. Recommend for anyone that likes reading non-fiction books about writers #anditsaugust

quietlycuriouskate I liked To the River very much: it's on my re-read list. I didn't know about the other two so have now stacked them. 7y
youneverarrived @River_Voice good to hear you liked it I'm looking forward to reading it. I think The Lonely City will be a re-read for me. 7y

Under a Silent Moon | Elizabeth Haynes
post image

Day 12 #AndItsAugust #NeedsMoreLove There are plenty of good British crime authors but Elizabeth Haynes is a favorite of mine who doesn't seem to get as much recognition as some others. I think her books need more love. She writes dark & twisty, whether standalones or her police procedural series (2 books so far). To illustrate the lack of love & recognition, I've been waiting for a new book from her & somehow missed that one came out last year.😬

elkeOriginal Which is your favorite or the best to start with? 7y
JaclynW I have the same question as @elkeo. ☺ 7y
DebinHawaii @elkeo @JaclynW Her first "Into the Darkest Corner" is really good (trigger warning for domestic violence). Human Remains is another of my favorites--really creepy. I like the series too--the first is the tagged book Under a Silent Moon. (edited) 7y

elkeOriginal Fantastic! Thanks for the tips! 7y
DebinHawaii @elkeo My pleasure! Hope you enjoy them. 👍📚 7y
melbeautyandbooks Thanks for the reminder. I have read two of hers and I liked them. For some reason, I haven't read the rest even though they are on my TBR. 7y
MicheleinPhilly I have 2 of these that I have not yet read. Must rectify that. 7y
Ms_T I loved Into The Darkest Corner. I must read more of her books. 7y
