This book has been on my TBR since I was 12! I had read Mrs. Mike (❤️) and thought it would be similar. Based on a true story of a teacher in the mining community of Chicken Alaska in the 20‘s. It has a pioneer feel and a forbidden (at the time) romance. I looked up Anne Hobbs online and she adopted many children. Also there are tours of her school house in Chicken Alaska. Don‘t let my 2/5❄️s rating scare you, I just wanted more.

Bookzombie This is one of my favorite books, but I first read it in middle school. I'm going to look for Mrs. Mike. I hadn't heard of it before. 🙂 5y
Kimberlone My grandmother gave this book to me and my sister when we were kids but somehow I never got around to reading it....someday I‘ll have to check it out! 5y
Bowietrek I first read Mrs Mike when I was in fifth grade and loved it. Now I want to read it again. 5y
BookNAround I loved Mrs. Mike! There‘s a sequel to it that I haven‘t read but have. I think it centers on Oh Be Joyful‘s daughter. 5y
Wife @BookNAround I read it years ago, and it was ok, but didn‘t love ❤️ it like MM. I also found the 1949 movie 🎥! But it was a dud, although a must see for those of us enchanted by the book. 5y

Probably because it was written as told, the action in this book barely stopped. What a testimony to how far we have come in opening our minds. It is unbelievable also to a comfort lover like me that people live in such cold, wild conditions. Heard the suggestion on What Should I Read Next podcast-

SaraFair @Riveted_Reader_Melissa - you are gonna love it! 5y

I have posted about this one several times. I'm not sure how many times I have reread it since middle school but I still love it and cried at the end. This was the cover I read in middle school. #retrorereads

#booktober Day 26 At first I was going to say I don't reread books because my TBR is ever growing, but that's a lie. I do reread sometimes, just not a lot. Here are a few that I love and have reread. I started rereading HP in September again and need to get back to it. #rereads

tpixie That font and cover on Tisha looks so familiar. I wonder if the publisher uses it a lot. I haven't read that book I can't remember what I read with that font! 7y
tpixie I have re-read Harry Potter series and I listen to the audiobooks but I really need to reread them again especially the last ones I don't have those memorized as much as the first half of them 7y
Bookzombie @tpixie I have a bunch of old Barbara Cartland books on my shelf by Bantam and the fonts are the same or very similar. 🙂 7y
Bookzombie @tpixie It's the same for me. I have the first few down much better than the last four. 7y
tpixie Thx. That must be it- Bantam! 7y

My #FunFridayPhoto is Tisha, by Robert Specht. Truly, a wonderful book. Set in Chicken, Alaska (🐓!!!), where it is 65 degrees today, this is creative non-fiction based on the story of a young woman who braved the 1920s Alaskan wilderness to establish a school. It is a love story, romantic love, but also a teacher's love for her students, and both these are put at risk because of racism.

BarbaraTheBibliophage Ohmigosh I loved this book! Must have been in high school when I read it. 8y
Librarylady This sounds really good. I'm adding it to my amazon order right now. 8y
