Ink and Bone
Ink and Bone: The Great Library | Rachel Caine
In an exhilarating new series, New York Times bestselling author Rachel Caine rewrites history, creating a dangerous world where the Great Library of Alexandria has survived the test of time.Ruthless and supremely powerful, the Great Library is now a presence in every major city, governing the flow of knowledge to the masses. Alchemy allows the Library to deliver the content of the greatest works of history instantlybut the personal ownership of books is expressly forbidden.Jess Brightwell believes in the value of the Library, but the majority of his knowledge comes from illegal books obtained by his family, who are involved in the thriving black market. Jess has been sent to be his familys spy, but his loyalties are tested in the final months of his training to enter the Librarys service. When he inadvertently commits heresy by creating a device that could change the world, Jess discovers that those who control the Great Library believe that knowledge is more valuable than any human lifeand soon both heretics and books will burn.

FINALLY got the hammock I‘ve been dying for. (Been waiting for the price to go down). And of course it‘s getting a little too chilly to stay out too long. Guess now it‘s time to get a small heater or fire pit so I can stay out longer.

This book is a so-so for me because the action didn‘t start until the last 1/4. I am not sure I will continue the series.

Started this one on a plane last night and am fascinated - the world is interesting and a twisted dystopia for booklovers with an apprenticeship system with shades of Harry Potter/Draco and maybe a bit The Magicians (but Jess irritates me less). I am tearing through it apace, and expect I'll be snagging the sequel soon!

julesG I absolutely loved this series. The final/fifth book was recently released. 2mo

This has been on my TBR forever. I *tried* to buy it from Book Outlet, but accidentally ordered Ink & Bone by Lisa Unger.🤦🏻‍♀️ Libby to the rescue! And I loved this so much. Books! Alchemy! Automatons! Book smugglers! Apprentice librarians at the Great Library in Alexandria!😍Add in a secretive/dystopian library system—this pretty much checks all my boxes. I loved the world-building, I loved the characters, and I immediately bought the sequel.😁

Johanna414 I thought this was a lot of fun too! 4mo

1. New Suns and Ink & Bone
2. First line of the first story in New Suns: “When Galactics arrived at JFK they often reeked of ammonia, sulfur, and something else that Tavi could never quite put a finger on.”
First line of the story proper in Ink & Bone: “‘Hold still and stop fighting me,‘ his father said, and slapped him hard enough to leave a mark.”

What a unique concept! I absolutely love the creative idea of the Library as world power, almost like religion! I am so intrigued and want to know more! It had a few whiffs of Harry Potter for me, which I utterly adore, but it was still very much its own series. I love the bits of an alternate world history with an all powerful library in control. I am super eager to read the next book now!

I really liked this book. I look forward to reading more of the series. The characters were relatable and interesting. I felt invested in the story and enjoyed the ride. Picturing this world in my mind drew me in further as it is magical and steam punk with a bit of Egyptian mythology mixed in for good measure. There is love, comaradiriery and intrigue. Little slow to start, but worth it as the story ramps up.

SassyBookworm One of my favorite series!!! Hope you keep enjoying them!!! 10mo

This is what I‘m reading now. It‘s a re-read but I wanted it fresh in my mind before I read the next two in the series. #currentlyreading

Laylafinn What is this about? 13mo
BookishBelle It‘s about what the world might be like if the Great Library of Alexandria had never been destroyed but instead took over the world. Owning physical books is outlawed but there‘s a thriving black market which our main character participated in until he was sent off to be a spy in library service. It‘s really good! @Laylafinn (edited) 13mo

I was a bit confused by the world itself. What I did like about the book was the characters and the friendships/relationships. I don‘t even feel like I should rate it as high as I have, given that I didn‘t quite understand what-all was going on. But, I liked the characters and given the situations they were in, I was interested to find out if they would make it out ok. Maybe a bit surprisingly, I think I will read the next in the series

An unexpectedly unputdownable read for me. Imperfect YA with what I personally find to be a bit too much romance, but to be fair at least the main romance does not become the focus of the book. Jess is faced with survival and impossible choices while learning that enemies are at every turn. Who can be trusted? Can he adapt to his new life? He knows he can't return to the life he had before.

🌟🌟🌟☄

Enjoyable fantasy/semi-steampunk/revisionist history tale about a world where librarians hold and wield utmost power and books are the most valuable treasure around. Pretty hard to not love that premise, right? The story gets a little convoluted and I wanted more character development but this is a fascinating world the author has built and that made the book fun to read, despite its flaws. This is 1 in a series. I‘ll read more! #loki #dogsoflitsy
