My first interlibrary loan came in. I had no idea that it includes books from across the province and not just the nearest city. Why they get them from libraries nowhere near here instead of a library close by when they have them in stock seems odd. Only allowed to request two at a time so I went with a Nepal read for #FoodAndLit and a short book set in Iceland.

1) crafting last weekend with girlfriends, making a scrapbook of my parents‘ cat who recently crossed the rainbow bridge 😢
2) bringing home dinner of burritos of enormous proportions (texmex in San Antonio is the best!!)
3) a little bit of snow at our lake house
4) making snert—split pea soup for #Netherlands #foodandlit
5) getting ready for #Nepal!!
Thank you @DebinHawaii for the tag!!
Here's my Christmas haul! It's a bit late because I took my time cashing in my Christmas gift voucher and the book that was a direct present was mislaid by the post office 🙃
So, I got:
The Book Censor's Library by Bothayna Al-Essa
L'énigme du nom propre (poems) by 15th c. Uzbek author Alisher Navoiy
Jâmi's Mejnun & Layla
Nezâmi's Mejnun & Layla
Palpasa Café (for #Nepal #FoodandLit)
Barzakh by Mauritanian author Moussa Ould Ebnou
Very happy!

I also recommend The Eight Mountains (link in the comments), which is set in Italy (for #ItalyJubilee) and partially in Nepal.
A re-read for me, but perfectly timed for when it‘s cold and the wind is howling. This is the book that started my love affair with high altitude climbing stories and it still holds up almost 30 years after publication.
November #bookspin is an author that i have been wanting to try for a long time. Can't wait to dig in!

This was a very harrowing story that makes you doubt the sanity of anyone who summits Everest. The story was well written, but a little bit rambly at times switching between 1996 and previous expeditions, at times this was lightly annoying because I wanted to hear more about what happened in 1996, but I understand that a lot of context needed to be set so that the layman (like me) could understand mountaineering terms.
The tenth most banned book in America this past year is a skillfully and sensitively told story, based on interviews with real survivors, of a 13 year old Nepali girl sold by her stepfather into prostitution in India. This important, inspiring, and very moving book, published in 2006 to critical acclaim, exemplifies the words Lakshmi‘s beloved mother tells her, “Simply to endure…is to triumph,” and celebrates survival, love of learning, and hope.
