You know what, it's tricky. I liked the writing and the timeline of a long weekend, a family wedding and that it was from the father of the bride perspective.
But... What a ghastly man... His lecherous thoughts and behaviour were cringy and so out of keeping with normality. And I don't feel her got his comeuppance!

Continuing the countdown of my books, from 1st to 25th, THE JACKAL‘S MISTRESS. Today it‘s my 4th novel, a 1995 story about the magical world of water-witching and a clash at a Vermont ski resort between new age mysticism and old school science.

A lovely, slightly bittersweet, book of interconnected stories that revels in the beauty in everyday life. A front runner among the #tob25 books for me.

5⭐️ count me among the Littens heaping praise on this #tob25 choice! A perfect linked short story collection bringing together New England‘s past and present.

There is still snow here, and it is snowing again! Very unusual for west Kentucky. My friends with kids are going stir crazy as Christmas break just keeps going. Snortles the Snow Pig is starting to get a bit tired of it, too!

squirrelbrain Glad you loved it too! I don‘t think Henry is keen on the snow, since it‘s turned to sheet ice here - he prefers the snuffly stuff! 3w
BarbaraBB Beautiful photo. I hope you can go outside with Molly! 3w
Readerann Just finished it and also loved it! 3w
Suet624 I gave out many copies of this book at Christmas to my friends. I loved it. 1w

A better picture of AllTheBooks that came in from being on hold at once at the library. Jeez, that‘s what I get for trying to game the system and have future holds to look forward to! 😅
My pup looks unimpressed by the future distractions for my time…
Currently reading and enjoying the tagged for #tob2025

Larkken @Booksblanketsandahotbeverage it seems like it will be deliciously squishy! Is it? 3w
DogMomIrene If you‘re not a fast reader, hopefully you can renew a bunch. That‘s what‘s saved me before. And Libby‘s “deliver later”. 2w
Larkken @DogMomIrene right? We'll see. It's always funny how my reading priorities change when I get a "cannot renew" message ? too bad there's no airplane mode on physical books? ? 2w
DogMomIrene @Larkken 😂😂😂 2w
BkClubCare I would make the gamble that Book Censor‘s Library will read fast, if that helps? (Seeing that this post is a week old, how are you doing? 😁) (edited) 2w
Larkken @BkClubCare good to know! I finished one and am almost done with a second… and got two more books from hold. So. 🤣🤷🏻‍♀️ honestly I‘m trying not to read too fast this year so am just taking things as they come! 2w

Even though I was up until 2AM and it was technically the 28th - I made myself hold off opening my #NLHS until after I took my license exam. If you need me, I‘ll be over here yawning, but happily enjoying some R&R now that I can table studying for a couple weeks.

Thank you so much @Marmie7 - I LOVED your wrapping paper! And am really excited to read these books. Also that candy bar has been calling my name all morning!

WildAlaskaBibliophile Hooray! 😍 Look at all those delicious looking books and treats! 1mo
bumpinthenight @Marmie7 I forgot to take a picture with the Krampus candle - but want you to know it smells so good! 1mo
Marmie7 @bumpinthenight I'm glad you enjoyed everything! I had a blast putting it together. I agree, the candle smells amazing! I bought some for my kids too. 1mo
bumpinthenight @Marmie7 all of these books have beautiful cover art! One of them has been on my wishlist for a long time, I had no idea it was a novella I had assumed it was a bigger book so I‘m excited I‘ll be able to read it in a short amount of time! 1mo

Here‘s my review. This book is not on Litsy so I‘m adding it under the tagged book.

This book counts for:

☑️ 3 readathons - #wintergames, #readyourkindle, #bookspinbingo

☑️ 2 hrs of reading (It only took me 2 hrs to read this.)

☑️ Holiday or winter read (This psychological thriller novella is set during Christmas.)

I think this was my favorite book club pick of the year for our club! I literally couldn‘t put it down and stayed up late to finish it in practically one sitting! Williams manages three timelines between two main narrators with most chapters ending on a cliffhanger, making it easy to justify another chapter (or 3) at a time! It led to a very lively discussion (even among the DNFers!) & while the Egyptian storyline was a miss for some, I loved it!

JenlovesJT47 Ooh I‘m on the waitlist for this on audio. 1mo
TorieStorieS @JenlovesJT47 I am curious to see what you think of it! In our book club, it seemed like those who listened had a harder time enjoying it because of the multiple timelines and what I assume is only one performer— but I loved it, which I feel like means you will too! 🤣 1mo
JenlovesJT47 Hmm I‘m sure I will love it lol. I‘ve read quite a few of her books and I always enjoy them. If you liked it I‘m sure I will 😬 1mo

TorieStorieS @JenlovesJT47 This was my first experience with her writing! What should I read of hers next? My Audible credits come in today! 🤣 1mo
JenlovesJT47 I like all of them but my favorite is this series. It‘s set in the 1920s which happens to be my favorite time period for historical fiction. I listened to them all on audio & I think she‘s supposed to write one more book for the series but not sure. 1mo
TorieStorieS @JenlovesJT47 I‘m getting it now!! I also love that time period — and obviously a good series! 🤣 1mo

A soft pick for these two loosely-connected stories that take place on Nantucket a year apart. These were super Hallmarky and perfectly pleasant. I enjoyed the first more than the second, because the mom in the second story drove me kind of crazy. But the greatest tragedy is that I was 160 pages in and all of the sudden the book skipped to page 216!! Right at the big finale of chaos (you know, where the kid ran away with the puppy and supper is ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) getting ready to burn and the baby is coming early and someone's ex showed up unexpectedly... the usual Christmas stuff 😂) SO I caved and purchased this book for a SECOND time except in Kindle version! All in all I was missing about 40 pages, which is a lot when the story is only 195pgs long. But it all worked out because then I was able to search the Kindle version for word search words and found 674!!!!!

So yeah, not groundbreaking ⬇
